can anyone tell me why I shouldn't upgrade to a Samsung GX20 instead of a Pentax K20D?
ANSWER:

The moon is bright like a lemon this morning with spring flowers on the high sea and ducks in the concrete.

There you have it, Daft question, Daft Answer
With all due respect for such a veteran as yourself, why is it a daft question? The two cameras are virtually identical and the CMOS chip in the Pentax is actually manufactured by Samsung.

(Sound of Pentax veterans collapsing in shock, horror, etc!)

I wonder what would be the answer to this question . . . if it was asked on a Samsung User forum ! ! !

I would hope that a Pentax fan could have only one recommendation.
I have used Pentax cameras for over 30 years and am happy to continue to do so. However, it's a tough old world out there.

I'm glad that Samsung are in the frame - it will help to keep Pentax prices under control, and loyalty is becoming an old-fashioned concept these days.

I would prefer to retain the Pentax logo on the front of my kit, however if Samsung can produce the same kit for less then it's got to be good for the market.

Is the Samsung actually available yet? I have seen nothing at all on it in the shops in Holland, but there again we still don't have the K20D
Amazon are selling them in the UK although I'm not sure if they have them in stock.

I hope this isn't considered a sacrilegious question, but can anyone tell me why I shouldn't upgrade to a Samsung GX20 instead of a Pentax K20D?

They are apparently technically identical, but the Samsung is cheaper.

I took some pictures at my young daughter's school sports day using my K10D on continuous auto focus. I stood looking down the track from the finishing line and, using multiple exposure, just held my finger on the shutter release for the duration of the flat race. Used the tighter end of a Tamron 18-200.

Well pleased with the results - I have a wonderful series of pictures of her race, capturing her varied facial expressions and exertions from start to finish. The camera only lost focus on the very last frame as my daughter ran up to the camera.

Another trick if you're cropping (in Photoshop) is to use the rectangular select marquee, rather than the crop tool, and set it to 'fixed ratio'. Then you can keep whatever aspect ratio you want and also have consistent results across a batch of images. (The crop tool doesn't, as far as I'm aware, allow you to set a fixed aspect ratio.)

After selecting the area you want to keep, you can select 'crop' from the 'image' drop-down menu.
