All very nice, and all, but at 800px, I'm not sure what the images show.

Don't know how to calibrate my laptop.
There are hardware devices (eg Pantone Huey, ColorMunki) which will do it. Windows also has an interactive calibration process that you can work through, although it's probably not as good.

If you want other people to see your pictures looking the same as they look to you, it's essential to have a calibrated monitor.

Otherwise, you'll edit your pics and get them looking the way you want, and they'll look completely different to others.

I quite like the compositions (including the steps), but the colours seem unnatural to me.

OP - have you calibrated your monitor?

By the way, Smeggy, if you have time, please would you compare the still lifes from the K-3 and D7100 at a suitable range of ISO values?

Does anybody actually shoot at these iso levels anyway? I don't think I've ever gone above 6400 and even then incredibly rarely.
This, as an argument for not worrying about the very high ISO settings, is putting the cart before the horse.

The reason we don't go above ISO 6400 or whatever is because the result is bad. If it wasn't, surely we would?

Apparently they are made of magnesium alloy and are virtually indestructible so they can probably handle a bit of abuse.
He was certainly looking pretty confident that he'd be able to meet people's demands last time I saw him.

Don't be silly, you need to be fully practised with it beforehand.

And be fully able to tell me if I want one.

I'm relying on you to be an early adopter

but whats the point if all your high lights still end up blown or there's no detail in the shadows.
All true, but how good do you need it to be?

The K-5 dynamic range was very good. It would be nice if the K-3's was better, of course, but one would hope it's unlikely to be worse.

So what happened to the storm?
It came down my street, and knocked two trees over, one of which landed on my car, fortunately doing only minor damage.

Annoyingly, it is usually parked near the ones I thought were more likely to come down, so I had moved it to a different spot.

The suspect two were fine..
