Maybe lose a third of the sky and three quarters of the water to turn it into a pano?
Almost what you're asking for - check this out.

The straightening tool in Picasa is pretty good
It is, but if you're going to use the grid, there needs to be a genuine horizontal or vertical line in the picture.

Otherwise, it's still the same judgement call - and if, as in this case, there's a receding shoreline, it won't necessarily be right to make the line it makes horizontal.

Not saying my original one was spot on, though - I think Gartmore was right to pick me up on it.

I think its worth staightening!
Hmm. How much was that? Looks a bit too much to me.
I just used the staightening tool, clicked on one side and dragged to the other. It is bang on, you can check just be scrolling down this page. It is funny that sometimes 'correct' can look 'wrong'
Sorry, I must be being thick.

Straightening tool in what?

And how can I check just by scrolling down? : :

I'd straighten the horizon too.
Nice one. I was wondering if anyone would pick that up. Welcome to the honourable society of people that can detect a 0.15 degree rotation by eye.

I agree it's off, but having fooled about with rotating it by very small amounts, I concluded it's not off as much as it looks at first glance, since the shores are not at the same angle.

It doesn't work for me, its too far away for my liking. The boat wake is a little distracting also.
It would have made a nice panaramic shot if you were closer and managed to get off 3 or 4 shots
I'm inclined to agree. It's showing the limitation of the lens a bit, at full size (although I can probably fix the CA), as well as some somewhat rushed PP, but do you like this more?

I can't make up my mind about this one. On the one hand, the Opera House is very small in the frame. But it appeals to me more than it otherwise would because of all the lines that take the eye to it (as well as the wake, there's the bridge, the line of clouds, the buildings, and the boat).

Not sure if they do the trick, or just heighten the disappointment when you get to where they lead.

What do you think?

I like that image very much.
I do too.

I think it's the most natural looking HDR shot I've seen.

What do you think Mate
Well, I can take the sunglasses off now, to look at some of them, but it's just not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. As I say, nothing personal.

I'll tell you one thing though. I think you photograph kids better than you photograph anything else.

What I can say is so far my clients have been extremely pleased with their wedding shots so much so they have ordered duplicate albums/prints etc.. so I must be doing something right.
Splendid. I never said you weren't doing something right. You asked for comments, I made some comments, based on my preferences.

One final thing if you ever shot a wedding as the main photographer you will realise how difficult it is under tremendous pressure to take accurate quality shots in sometimes difficult and demanding situations.
Absolutely. I have done a couple some years ago, quite successfully as they turned out, so I'm well aware of this.

You only have one shot come rain or shine.
This is only partly true. I'm quite sure you take several each of all the poses. And you can look at what you did straight away if you're unsure of anything, and retake any gross errors. Obviously it would disrupt the flow if you checked every one, but it's a safety net if you need it.

It was more true in the days of film, when I did mine.

Chris I take your points on board
I'm not even suggesting that you do. If your clients like what you do, and you have enough of them, then my, or indeed anyone else's views are of no consequence. Nothing personal, just that I won't be one of your clients
