Classic harbour scene, but does it work?

I can't make up my mind about this one. On the one hand, the Opera House is very small in the frame. But it appeals to me more than it otherwise would because of all the lines that take the eye to it (as well as the wake, there's the bridge, the line of clouds, the buildings, and the boat).

Not sure if they do the trick, or just heighten the disappointment when you get to where they lead.

What do you think?

It doesn't work for me, its too far away for my liking. The boat wake is a little distracting also.
It would have made a nice panaramic shot if you were closer and managed to get off 3 or 4 shots

I'm inclined to agree. It's showing the limitation of the lens a bit, at full size (although I can probably fix the CA), as well as some somewhat rushed PP, but do you like this more?

I think you could dodge the boat's wake a bit and lift the sea a little overall and this would lead the eye in more. I'd straighten the horizon too.

Nice one. I was wondering if anyone would pick that up. Welcome to the honourable society of people that can detect a 0.15 degree rotation by eye.

I agree it's off, but having fooled about with rotating it by very small amounts, I concluded it's not off as much as it looks at first glance, since the shores are not at the same angle.

I like the image a lot. The clouds and the wake lead the eye into the picture and the colour is great.

It would make a fantastic final image in a Pictures2Exe slide show.

I just used the staightening tool, clicked on one side and dragged to the other. It is bang on, you can check just be scrolling down this page. It is funny that sometimes 'correct' can look 'wrong'

I suggest loosing about a third of the lower half to loose the rough part of the wake.

I like the close up version better

The straightening tool in Picasa is pretty good

It is, but if you're going to use the grid, there needs to be a genuine horizontal or vertical line in the picture.

Otherwise, it's still the same judgement call - and if, as in this case, there's a receding shoreline, it won't necessarily be right to make the line it makes horizontal.

Not saying my original one was spot on, though - I think Gartmore was right to pick me up on it.
