I'm planning on purchasing the Tamron 70-200 2.8 and I wonder what TC I can use with this lens on my Pentax K200D?
One I have seen on ebay is this one link

Anyone have experience with this lens and TC? It would be used for aviation photography in replacement of my DA 55-300
I have the tamron 70-200mm f2.8, I use the Kenko 1.5 TC
and yes, it does auto focus with TC.
I also have the Sigma 150-500mm APO the latest one and that may be even better for you.
I'd prefer staying in 70-200 for close up shots as I see that the airport I take my pictures at (Brussels) is perfect for a 70-200. For shots further out such as in airshows, I'm going to try to get me a 300 prime

What are your experiences with the Tamron in terms of missed AF? I see this coming up in all the reviews of this lens...
Also, is the difference IQ of this lens used with the TC at max range very noticeable?

Are your photos sharp already?

If so, I do not think spending additional money just for that little bit extra, is worth it.

By all accounts I hear the 55-300 is a very good lens
The following picture I consider to be as sharp as this lens goes with post processing applied (USM passes) in not too good weather (Belgium...)
pentax 55-300
The next picture is taken by another spotter of the same airplane with a similar zoom, also post processing, but in better weather
canon 75-300

I've always wondered whether I will get better sharpness shooting 100-200 zoom range with a shorter zoom such as 70-200 than with a DA55-300.
Or, perhaps i can use a 135 for even better sharpness (it would be just a matter of choosing a suitable place to take pictures)
I have only used the DA 55-300, never used the "old" lenses...
I have an inkling to buy a 70-210 or 135 and try it out. But if any of you have tried all of these lenses, then I'd be grateful for your thoughts

Just as a point of interest I do still have my A*300 f2.8 which would be excellent for aviation photography providing M/F is not an issue. However I have promised a forum member that I will hold it for another couple of weeks pending finance for its purchase. If this is not forthcoming I will advertise it for sale on the forum. It is considerably larger than the lens in question !!

Hi Richard,
what a dream lens... pity that my budget is a bit short

Have you given up on changing to Canon then?
Yep. Actually I just bought the battery grip for the K200D as it should improve the handling and vertical shots.
My dream set up is two bodies: one with a fast zoom or the current 55-300, and another body on tripod with a prime. Thats why i'm interested in getting this A300

There is A*300 on sale here ebay

Is this really a legendary lens and it is better than the DA300? I'm looking for a 300 prime for my aviation close-up shots. Does anyone have pictures taken with this baby?

This lens looks like a good lens for my aviation pics too. Anyone have experience with this lens?

Thanks you all for the comments
I took a deep breath and decided to keep my Pentax gear. It would be a shame to sell it in new condition. I was going to switch to Canon cause i like their zoom lenses such as 70-200 and the big hefty D20-30-40 body.

I'm into aviation photography and i have trouble finding a good zoom lens over 300 or prime

Some pics taken with this gear flickr

Cheers
