I had originally planned (hoped) that it would be sufficient to just change the light seals on the KX . I have purchased the Jon Goodman/Interslice kit. But besides the mirror alignment, I have also discovered that the shutter is way off, it even hangs at the very slowest shutter speeds. My DIY plans have hereby been terminated, the camera needs a professional CLA. So - I will most likely send it off to Harrow Technical.

Thank you again Ken for your efforts to help me!

I have tried to crop my images to zoom in on the place where the pin comes into contact with the mirror box. It does in fact look like there is only a fixing hole for the hinge pin on the left hand side.

Probably the camera needs some attention from a qualified technician...

Thank you for your response Ken! Yes, I mean the pin that runs through the hinge. On the KX it is only fixed on the left hand side (holding the camera up-side-down:shock, it does not come through the hinge on the right hand side. On the Spotmatic the pin is in contact with the mirror box on both sides.

My main concern is that the mirror looks like it is bent slightly sideways, when compared to my Spotmatic, MX and K20D.

I have recently purchased a KX in pretty good condition, except for one thing: The mirror seems to be slightly out of alignment. After comparing the mirror mechanism of the KX with my Spotmatic, I observe that there is a rod at the base of the mirror of the KX that is only secured on one side (image 3, only secured on the left hand side). On the Spotmatic the rod is secured on both sides. Is there something wrong with my KX? If so - is this DIY , or should I approach for instance Harrow Technical and get them to repair my camera?

I am grateful for any advice on this matter!

BTW: I have not yet run a film through the camera, so I do not know if the mirror alignment affects focusing.

Thank you DrO and Stuey! I did not know it was possible to turn off the dfs on the K5. Yet another reason to contemplate an upgrade

I enjoy the whole set. My favourites are the tree and the "poke you in the eye cane".
