I am curious about something, I have recently purchased a K5. When I placed my 'used' SD Card in the camera the new camera the number of images were read from the card e.g 101/ 9000 , then as I took pictures the number incremented i.e 101/9001 etc. I then tried another of my cards which had a Folder number 101 / 4000, again as I took more images the number incremented e.g 101/ 4001 etc

Am I correct the only place where the total images are stored is on the card only, is there a memory location in the camera where this is place?

Thanks Brian.

Thanks for your comments, better ISO performance and higher speed shutter is something that is of concern to me with my K 20D although other than that its great. I have 2 DA* lens and was thinking about a macro lens ...so I will give itsome thought whether I get the new body or go for the lens??!!

In my experience, the new model (as and when it comes out) will be at a significant premium for some months. The best value is usually about a year in when you will get the best price for your old camera and buy the current model for the least.

The best thing is to ask yourself what it will give you that you actually need. If you need a higher ISO and faster focussing then buy a K5. If you don't then buy glass. Lenses last longer and hold their value better.

But if you think the K5 is worthwhile then now is a good time to buy.

If a FF Pentax comes out in the next year I don't think it would launch at much less than £1,500. For that you can get some very nice glass!

Looking for some advice! I have had a K20 D for 3 years and have had great success with it, however I am in a position to spend some money ! I am wondering if I should update to a K 5 now or wait to see whats around the corner.. i.e a new update to the K5 or the much rumoured FF camera. Your thoughts would be appreciated

I am quite new to the DSLR world although photography has always been a love of mine. I have found the Pentax User site very helpful and friendly and not at all intimidating compared with Flicker etc. I enjoy and look forward to seeing contributions, and find it a great shame if people are choosing to remove there 'work', as gain a great deal from this and certainly pick up some useful tips.
However I can also understand Darkmunk's point where a more experienced / serious photographer might want a greater level of critique to be applied . I feel it would be useful to have a daily post portion and also an area for serious critique.
By the way I would appreciate any constructive critique, as I really want to improve.

Have a great day

I wouldn't, not to the hot shoe but you could try the connector on the side,
I just bought a sigma flash for my K20 and it works fine.

I have recently moved to the K20 from my Z50P and have a Unomat B24 manual flash. I have been told to be careful about connecting certain 'older type' of flashes. Is this right ? Can anyone recommend well priced guns?

Best regards

I am new to DSLRs' so after years of working with my Z50P, I decided to purchase a K20D, and am really pleased with the camera hardware, I would like to say the same of the software that came with the camera!!. The S-SW 74 and 75 loaded but doesn't want to run, therefore I am currently using I Photo which is ok but probally doesn't have all the bells and whistles. I noticed on the camera you can choose PEF and DNG file formats, does anyone know if these are supported formats in I photo?

I understand one of the benefits of the DNG format is that this is the Native Format for PhotoShop, I am also wondering if I should bite the bullet and purchase PS or is there other programmes like Aperture from Apple which is better for the MAC OS X user.

Thanks in advance
BAJ
