Thanks for the reply!
The focus ring does alter the aperture, as does twisting the front of the lens! The aperture ring does not alter the focus, no. This has no manual/auto switch, and is a 44/4 with the focus and aperture rings in the conventional place, which I think makes it a later one?
As I bought it for it's wide open effects, and it cost me £6 posted, I will leave it for now and see how I get on.
I took these earlier...the second one is a 100% crop, both wide open..

as they came out of the camera

I have just received the above via ebay. It was sold as 'blades sticking' but on closer examination, the blades do not stick, however they adjust themselves as there is some slack in the barrel so that when you turn the focus ring either way, the aperture changes by about one stop.
I took the back plate off and discovered that there is a brass link that connects the inside and outside rotating parts [excuse my lack of proper ternminology here]. It locates on the inside with a tab, and on the outside two holes locate over two pegs. Here is the slackness. I didn't go any deeper before asking here...has anyone had this problem? is it repairable? any advise?
Suspect part is circled [badly] in red!
I can use it wide open, and quite successfully at various apertures, but you never know quite where you are.
Thanks

I really wanted the *istDS for my MF lenses, but if this works and saves me 100 euros I'll give it a go and see how I get on. I'm sure there are benefits either way.
I do now need a focus screen of some sort for the *istDS as I managed to scratch it slightly during my fiddles. Only feint to the naked eye, but a black line through the viewfinder.

Sometimes I wish I didn't start the fiddling...

Sorry I know not of UK customs/duties/import law but does your Govt not provide a public-info website covering all that?
Or do they treat you like mushrooms over there?
.R.
Thing is, if you don't get stopped, you save money, and they don't open everything, so that's the gambol. I just wondered whether others have been caught with something as small as a focus screen, depends how it is sent I suppose.
Andy
and yes...Kazeye is what I meant, but open to advice here.

As I can't find a second hand Catzeye for my *istDS I'm thinking of ordering one form the States.
Has anyone done this?...it there a UK outlet? [I can't find one]if you did, were you caught for import tax? I'm not too happy about the gamble here so just wondered what others had experienced.
Thanks

it also appears I need a new keyboard. I can't edit the header but meant 'delivery/customs'

Has anyone got a spare split focus screen for my *istDS? I tried to fit my K100d screen and found they are not compatible. I'd like to keep the DS for manual focus work, so this set up seems the best option.
All offers considered!
Thanks
