Hi,

My other half has dissapeared for eight months, only returning for a few weekends and two two week blocks of leave.

I want to do a 225 or however it works out, and don't quite know where to start.

Do I post here?, do I post onto a flickr account? Do I advertise it here to get c&c from the knowlegable members here? What have you done?

Any advice appreciated.

Well it doesn't seem too bad to me, but then I have a motley selection to compare it to. I shall take it for a walk and see how it performs [wide open only..]

Ah, Thanks, I thought possibly oil but it's the first time I have had this problem.

You say partially dismantle...is this from the front or the back?...and do I need a special tool to start unscrewing glass retaining bezels?


Is there anything liable to 'ping' out and get lost in the carpet or is it straightforward?

I have a couple of lenses that have been apart prior to my ownership, and there are some marks as if the wrong tool for the job was used.

Yes, it was quite cheap, it came with a Clubman MC auto 1:2.8 28mm with the KR mount so I had it stuck on the camera within 20 minutes of opening the package!

There is also a Pentax-A 50mm 1:2 with a bit of fungus on the front element so I reccon my days off might be spent inscrewing things.

Hi, I picked up this lens recently and even though it seems to perform very well wide open, the aperture is VERY slow. I can turn the aperture ring from 2.8 to 22 and count 12 seconds as the blades slowly, and smoothly close down. It is stiff to open from closed by manually moving the lever with the lens off the camera

1. Is this an easy fix?..I can find little mention of this lens having this problem with google, but it seems very sharp at 2.8 so it may have potential.

2. Is this a well regarded lens? Anyone got one?...any comments?

...they were the best of the bunch. Too much movement and it got all blurry. They are jpegs straight out of the camera.

Hope this is the right forum...

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the dress rehersal of the British Military Tournament and went along with the istDS and my 50-300DAL.

We were closer than I thought [royal enclosure] so I wished I had something wider, and in the low light the 50-300 hunted for focus quite a lot. As I was looking after youngsters there I didn't want to take a bag full of lenses and spend the night not keeping an eye on them...










I chose the istDS over the K200D as I have read that it's better in low light.

Anyway, I'm off to London Zoo in the morning and don't want to make the same mistake.

I have the following to choose from, and I'd appreciate any advice on which to take with me.

istDS or K200D
50-300DAL
50-200DA
18-55WR
28-70FA F4
28-105 SigmaUCzoom

and a few MF lenses [Pentax 50 1.7, Beck 135 2.8, AutoChinon 200 4.0] but I suppose their usefulnes depends on the speed the animals will be moving...

I have a friend in the reptile house so may get a few opportunities in there, so it's low light again for that.

Any thoughts? ..also specific camera settings that I should use. Last night I left it on auto as that seemed better than fiddling and missing the show.
