I like the pictures.
But please:
Lightning is the subject of the pictures.
Lightening is what you do if something's too dark.
Sorry, pedant mode off now
But if the lightning is lightening your image (since it would otherwise be too dark), would it still not apply?

OK, sorry...

Wow, I actually like the reddish color! There is a good contrast from the rest of the darker sky. I works well.
Very nice.

Much more dramatic and impressive!!
No way to get lightning other than with long exposures (or tremendously fast reflexes!!!) So even more impressive to get that many on one shot.
For my time behind the lens I got that many full strikes over the course of almost an hour. (lots of duds and tiny short trails -- so very jealous )

I always like to see where the lightning meets the clouds as well, but this is a certainly a step up over the prior one.

Crop in on the lightning.
Levels to bring out more contrast in the clouds. (I didn't realize this was over water until I turned up the brightness a bit. Levels should help.)
Is the color accurate? Still, you may want to bring our more of a gray or blue hue.

Do you have more than one shot that look decent? Merge them together to add more strikes.

Anyway, unless your in an area where lightning strikes are fairly common, ya have to be real patient. So good job.
Just interested in how many shots you took and how long before you got a good one? I was one up at the window for five hours until 3am to get a good strike. It was the only good lightning storm in 10 years in this area, so I wasn't about to miss it! (wife rather puzzled by my behavior but the photo is pretty good).

Sorry, gravely mis-understood what you meant by "doesn't work"!!

Anyway, if you're not stuck on the Stofen you might check other types. I'll have to look up the brand of what I use when I get home, but it folds up flat and fits in any pocket.
Although you do have to live with Velcro stuck to your flash., and for some that is a huge issue. I'm not particularly fond of that myself, but it has worked pretty well and I find it more convenient than the hard plastic boxes.

How soft are you expecting them to be?
I'm sure it is working but perhaps not as well as you'd like. Remove it and take the same shot. I'm sure you'll see some difference.

I don't have the omnibounce, but instead a velcro'd fold up thing (forget the name). Convenient and works well. But with my first few shots I didn't quite seem to get the results shown on the package.

Also, how close are you to the subject? Are you perhaps getting hot spots from the flash focusing in on a tighter beam through the front? You may want to force the flash to a wider zoom amount, or angle the head slightly to get the more diffused light rather than head on.
I will sometimes pull out the diffuser/wide-angle panel on the 540 just to make sure the light isn't coming straight through so strongly.

I believe when in tethered mode and taking photos via Remote Assistant, the images do not stay on the camera. So accessing the camera as a drive or network connection probably won't help.

It does behave a bit strange with booting with some USB card readers as well so maybe it will help with that.
I forgot, that was the specific problem! My card reader had to be pulled out any time I had to reboot the system. Try turning off legacy mode if it is on. (via BIOS) I believe that was the solution.
(Wow, those gray cells are still alive?!?!? They fail me when I try to remember what I did this morning, and now they kick in for something four years ago! Argh!!)

If that doesn't help, I would hazard a guess that most expansion cards are going to be just fine. It was something pretty specific to the ASUS BIOS.
I would not spend a lot of money, but I'd probably go with a name brand like Belkin.

I hate to ask, but how old is the motherboard? I used to have LOADS of problems with USB on ASUS motherboards. There are/were two standards for USB. One was supported by Microsoft Windows, the other was not. ASUS seemed to have the best motherboards except for their use of this oddball USB protocol. Most items still worked but you'd hit the odd device or piece of software that would have problems.

That was three or four years ago so I'd hope they worked that out, but then again maybe not. But it may be worth looking into. If it is the motherboard no HUB will help. You may need to get an expansion card with more USB ports. (Seems stupid but it was my solution at the time).

Upgraded with each one so far with no problems. I also have yet to hear of anyone having a problem.
If your battery is charged to last a few minutes it should not be a problem. I don't know how much juice a upgrade uses, but you may just want to ensure you have the batteries fully charged. (Or get a external power supply)

If something does go wrong, unfortunately you very likely become the proud owner of a door stop that closely resembles a K10D. i.e. You need to return it to get a new brain.

USB cables have a theoretical maximum of 5 meters (I think??). You can buy extender cables and chaining them together (to the max of 5M), or you can get powered hubs or cables to go greater lengths. I have two cables chained at the moment for nearly 3m with no problem.
There is another thread on here somewhere from not too long ago that has some good detail on the issue.
