Hmm, too bad.
I'm looking to knock down/balance the ambient light a bit so I believe I'm limited to shutter speed to do that.
Maybe I'll practice some more with lower power considerations.
If I can work at half power that might be OK, not great but better than nothing.

I supposed I could always rig up a pair or half a dozen flashes on some sort of rig. Now that would be cool! maybe not...

Anyone use the external battery pack for the Pentax flashes? Does it help with recycle speed of the flash?

I've been asked to shoot an event but hate to be forced to wait six seconds between shots. It is likely that I will need full power most of the time - more likely high speed sync -- lower output but full charge used nonetheless.

Alternatively, anyone know of DIY hacks or other methods (cheaper then $300+ for the TR3) that will pump more power to the flash?

Failing that, an Elinchrom kit would be better still. Just a thought...
Oh, don't even mention Elinchrom's name. Im done with them.

Anyway, I'll try been playing with the 540 on lower power. Don't know if I'll be able to hold the 360 at the same time. I will unfortunately be wandering around outdoors through small crowds. So I am sort of limited.
But tat may also mean limited distance to subject and the lower power may be OK.

Does it sound right to say that HiSpeedSync will only work well in under a meter even at 1/800s? I know it gets knocked down a lot due to multiple flashes, but that seems rather short. Just been watching too much Strobist where they seem to be using strobes knocking down the sunlight with high shutter speed.
Hmmm... I suppose if I were able to get 1/250s or more I wouldn't need as much flash power??

Anyway, using your trick to keep the flash in Auto or Manual mode, I seem to be able to set up a decent exposure and still get several shots in a row.
I did similar work last year with no flash, but a little fill would be nice.
I haven't work with the flashes outdoors much (well, only where I could retake the photo if it were a junker -- that won't be much of an option now), so I'll need some practice.

Wow, sure beats the one per six seconds of the Pentax flash!!
Was that at full power? Of course I dunno if I could get that many at 1/16 power.
Pentax must have really skimped on the capacitors on the 360 and 540.
For the cost, I'm rather disappointed.

Funny, I've been checking View New Posts all morning but didn't see this one until just now. I would not have started my thread about the TR3 pack if had seen this one. Odd timing.

I also had seen other brand names apparently firing away every second or two. Do they really recycle full power that quickly or do they just work better on lower power giving the ability to fire more quickly?

Hmmm, hate to even ask, but what sort of problems (I'm sure you've been all over the net getting half-baked answers that could fill a book).

Installation went smoothly for me... except that two days later the preferences got corrupted and I could only draw in blue. (even in grayscale!!)
With a rather simple but irritating wipe of preferences, my problem was solved and not an issue since.

Try a grocery store bag. rubber band or tape the bag over the end of the lens and cut out the hole. (I simply used the lens hood to hold the bag in place and it works well. no need for tape or rubber bands)
When traveling, it packs well and if lost (or stolen ) they are easily replaced.

Looks silly, but not as silly as the guy hunched over his camera trying to be a human umbrella.

You can also check out camera shops for more expensive solutions made to allow cameras to be out in the rain, etc...

Well, thank you very much for the honor!
The photo was taken through the open doorway of an old crypt, so the roughly darkened edges were as photographed. I got several creepy photos that day.

Hmmm, never really expected to win regardless of how much I liked my image. Caught totally off guard, I have no clue what to do next. Thinking....

I have to tend to visiting relatives tonight, but I will post a new category as soon as possible.

Thanks again.

OK, I've seen articles where a guy does this at weddings, Crazy.
Without getting paid to do it, still crazy!!

Nice perspective though. You need a good fisheye and throw it higher!
