Against the grain, I'll submit a full color image.

Well, you can try resetting the camera to manufacturers defaults and remove all the batteries for a minute. Sometimes strange issues "can" be fixed this way.

Unfortunately last year, my K10D did the same sort of thing.
I finally had it sent in for repair and Pentax essentially replaced the entire insides. (motherboard, sensor, a few other things).

Initially shot in JPEG and tried RAW a few times but never liked it and kept going back to JPG. Granted unbeknownst to me, my camera was out of wack and the images were never as sharp as they should be. (meanwhile wondering why I can't get nice images)...

Anyway, got my camera repaired and RAW finally made a nice difference.
Got the K10D and some nicer lenses, and WOW...
Been shooting RAW+JPG for the a good part of the past year and finally realized that I simply never use the JPG files any more. I now shoot in RAW only.

I'll download the images, peruse through SilkyPix, tag the keepers and process those. While they convert, I'll usually go off and do something else like keywording the RAW files in ACDSee. In the end, not much of my time is really lost on processing, even large sets of files.

FYI, I look back at some of the vacation photos I shot a few years ago and there are some where the color and tonal range is noticeably poor. I wish I had RAW files to go back to now and bring out that extra data for enlargements.
Although honestly, to fit the same number of RAW files as I took JPEGs, I'd need another $400 in memory cards (memory was not so cheap four years ago ) So I'm still glad I have the shots and didn't have to concern myself with how many photos I took.

Sorry, I'm really not thinking today...

I thought you meant dust shake went on,... but if it goes to sleep and puts up the mirror for no reason, that would seem quite bad.
Is it worth sending away for repair? Like you said, power off/on and no big deal and easily resolved. So maybe not yet, but still, something must be wrong.

(been a terrible day of mental goof-ups for me today, I just hope I keep my job by the end of it. Argh!!!)

Hmmm, a year and a half with no such occurrence.
But then, I've only put the dial in P mode a few times -- by accident.

Odd, but I guess it could be intended. To me it would be rather annoying. I'm not a big fan of undocumented automatic "features".

Very cool. Thanks for the links.
I heard it was supported, but had not investigated enough to know you had to turn that on manually.

I you are OK with freezing the water with every detail, a faster shutter speed might help to cut down the light.

Otherwise you have not much choice but to tack on a couple of ND filters to bring the light down to a level to which your camera can handle. Even on overcast days, the highlights reflecting off water can easily blow out the image.

If the contrast of background is too great, even ND filters will not help -- you'll simply make the background too dark.
You may need ND Grads which will go from clear to dark. You can position such that the dark area is over the bright water to knock it down a couple of stops but leaving the rest rather untouched.
But that probably would not work well for this scene with its inconsistent shape and foreground.

You would probably simply need to take two or three images and piece the acceptable portions back together or use HDR software to do it automatically. Of course to get the initial acceptable images it sounds like you still need, at least, some ND filters.

Too slow! Yeah, polariser would be a great choice as well!

Thanks. I'm hopeful that no one took anything I said too harshly.
I tried not to be harsh to begin with, but I always try to give both positive comments as well as areas I think could do with improvement. For many, I found the latter to be rather difficult to do.

That helps explain some of the unusual shapes. Quite a creative way to get ideas flowing.

Sorry Yelvertoft, I refreshed but didn't catch the size limit change. But now, of course, it shows up correctly. Anyway, don't feel bad I didn't really hold it against ya. It is still a top three image and well done.
