None of those machines had HDDs that could handle one image of 30 to 120Mb, let alone RAM
Of course, just because it was possible didn't mean it was practical.
People certainly weren't doing much retouching with a file that size! (I think they were actually being transferred to a Cray or something along that line for the expensive highly CPU intensive work. )
Anyway, sorry for taking this topic off its tracks.

Which one have you got then Teogin??
You'll certainly have fun editing images from any of them on an Amiga
Matt
Just because the heads of the company didn't expand the capabilities to meet market demand, didn't advertise enough... er, mmm, some of that is starting to sound like Pentax. ergh! Well, at least Pentax has started turning around.
I still have hopes for an Amiga resurgence.

I'll have to look at the other contacts.
If the two internal contact are only for power, then Perhaps something is missing. But all seven contacts are there, the A* lens has six.
Hmm, one of them seems to be indented further than the rest.
I'll have to see if that might not be connecting.
Although I went to the camera shop, and they had another brand, also with all contacts. It also failed to function. There must be something about the older v.s. newer tele-converters that are required to suport SDM focusing. Bummer...

Try this to remove all possibilities...
Connect the drive directly to your computer's ethernet port.
If you do not have a Gigabit card, you may need to put a switch/hub in between (gigabit allows for direct connect using standard cable, some 100BaseT may require a crossover cable or adapter if a switch is not in between.)
If the problem is solved, then reconnect items until the problem re-occurs.
If the problem persists, well, then, er, um, you're SOL.

Sounds like we're on the same page, as the shutter fires, exposure starts. (unless I'm, missing something).
Anyway, I just find it slightly amusing because on another forum there was huge arguments and debate that raged for pages about what defined the term. I find the shutter lag an issue mainly for automated triggered firing, for which there is not really an issue that cannot be worked around.
Although one discussion pertained to auto-firing for capturing lighting strikes. It was said to be possible if your shutter lag was small enough, yet no one knew what the shutter lag was for the K10D. (apparently some brand/models of cameras are fast enough). I think it finally came down that there was no possible way to capture any bit of lightning with the K10D if the shutter is not already open.

But this lens at 300mm gets you a lot closer than my old 28-300 lens would at 300mm (don't know why that is... 300mm is 300mm right?), yet it is a lot sharper at 300mm...
Thanks for the comments.

I picked up a tele converter... it has all the contacts including the two inside the lens for autozoom/SDM. With a continuity tester I verified that the contacts are functional from front to back.
Yet with SDM lenses, the camera goes right into manual focus mode. If I cover the two internal contacts the camera goes into a sort of error state and the screw drive focusing won't function either. So "some" sort of communication is going through.
Is there actually some sort of circuitry inside the lens that would need to know about the SDM protocol of some sort???
I was told that older teleconverters simply don't know how to make SDM work, but I would think the contacts would merely be a simple pass through.
Any ideas? Is it possible to make my DA* lenses autofocus with the teleconverter?
Thanks!

What brand NAS drive it is?
How are you connecting that to the network? Are all six machines and the NAS on the same hub, switch, router? i.e. Is it all plugged into your internet service provider's router(probably not built for lots of network throughput)? Or connected to a separate GigaBit switch for example.
It may be a routing or DHCP issue, but I would suspect accessing shared drives on other machines would also give the same behavior.
Is the NAS perhaps going to sleep and the router being forced to dole out a new or renew the DHCP address? That should not happen, and I really do not know how you would tell unless the router logs show that sort of thing or if the NAS IP address changes regularly.

I've put mine under the shower... the in-line water limiters keep the water pressure lower than the water falling from the past few severe rain storms I've been through with the camera.
I have not heard how the seals deal with salt water. It would be interesting to hear how the seals, such as those inside the lens that you cannot rinse off, would hold up over time. (Although, I suspect like anything else including SCUBA gear, it is best not to leave salt water in contact with anything for long periods. I'd like to know how people handle that situation.)

Sometimes certain light seems to interfere as well.
Take the camera to a dark room, don't go so far back (maybe one or two meters) and be sure you are almost directly in line with the lens or directly back from the camera. I believe the documentation says to stay within 15 degrees from center, but I'm not sure the K10D has that much tolerance.
Hopefully that will help determine if the remote is bad.
