I get good results using a tamron 350mm mirror lens. I recently had a 500mm Tamron mirror gifted to me by one of my students in the UK.
Got here to western Canada in six days. Using the 2x on that is ok, but certainly not the quality I get on the 350mm, ... The 500 also is several years older , probably early 1980s.

With my f2.8 80-200mm Sigma, the 2x extender works very well. However by then you certainly have to be lugging along a tripod or monopod.

I have the pentax 1.7 af and it is great... but not with all lenses.
in fact the lenses it performs best with are short range, high quality zooms, prime,s and manual focus lenses like the 85mm soft. I get decent results with a sigma 400mm f4 and not so hot with the pentax 28-200.

I've used a Tamron 2x for some years, but that was not a cheap lens by any means. And it is best to use a device like this on a lens that is of good quality to start with.

Ok, I downloaded and installed EASY GPS and alsoGPicSync.

Now my gps is in 24 hour format, set to local time. My pentax is also set to 24 hour and set to the exact minute that the gps showed.

When I take an image, it shows for instance 17:45 on the lcd on the camera. However when I upload the images, that changes to 5:45pm. Now why in the world is that and how do you correct that. Some other setting in the pentax?

thanks for all the information folks.

Also saw this one, that does not even require a computer, but can't see a dealership in North America.

I have a high end handheld Garmin, and perhaps the free software mentioned on this site would be ok to start with.

I have the Qstarz GPS device, Works well. I am very happy with it. www.Qstarz.com.
The Sony one will also work with it or there is a really neat new one - the ATP - http://photofinder.atpinc.com/what.html

If you have a Garmin satnav that can also be used as a tracker I believe.

Does any one know of a gps type device that will attach to the Pentax and read the co-ordinates into the digital image similar to what Canon has?

One of my friends has a WFT-E3 wifi grip for his Canon 40D. One handy feature it gives you is the ability to connect a GPS unit to the camera and write the latitude, longitude, and altitude of the location from which you took the photo to the EXIF meta data of the image file.

Thanks.

yes, I own a six inch reflecting telescope that I built up in the late 1960s, and my favorite lens is a 28power erfle wide angle lens for viewing the moon. And it is best at about 1/4 to 1/3rd moon,,,,no sense even bringing it out during full moon, you would have to wear sun glasses.

I get fairly decent images shooting afocal method, just pointing the camera lens at the 28 power lens, using macro I believe, and doing it that way.

I'll have to set this up again this coming summer, and then fight off the mosquitoes, lol

well obviously you had less of a focusing issue than what I was having last evening, although the 30 below windchill was not helping matters either.

Plus I had street lamps to contend with.

I'm going to try my lens sometime when it is 1/4 moon, the cottage this summer, where I don't have to drive 30 minutes, to get away from city lights.

What lens were you using to get that moon image.

A slight focus issue which I am sure was atmospherics as the moon was a lttle too low in the sky.
