what is the difference between a pentax as per the ebay link and the same thing badged as jessops that i won for £65. looks identical and does the same thing allowing AF to pass through
It would help if you could supply some details of the Jessop one?
We seem to be a bit thin on mind readers here at present

Is it a 2x, 1.7x or 1.4x for instance?
A photo of it would probably allow someone to identify the original
maker.... it certainly wasn't Jessops.

It's the colour one for me. You seem to have captured almost
the full range of tones.

I was thinking more of other marques when I wrote the original... mainly the the ones with built in lens SR. It then crossed my mind that if Pentax make a big change in the AF system the old power zoom contacts used by SDM may have to go? I certainly hope it doesn't happen, but they have to take costs into consideration as well?

I wonder what will happen to all these lenses with built in SR and focus motors when they change the lens mounts for the next generation on future cameras?

These are superb lenses.... never found anything to beat them in the 70-210mm range, even the A 70-210mm f/4 doesn't seem any better. Very slight purple fringing at times but less than a lot of other lenses and not really a problem.

Daylight bulbs aren't cheap in the UK. Some parts of the world actually use daylight bulbs in their homes, so they can buy them for normal prices. For photography you probably need at least 100W equivalent. Some of the cheaper ones don't cover the full spectrum. There also seems to be some confusion over colour temperature in the UK some are advertised at 6500K which doesn't sound right.

I've never had the Tamron 500mm, but 82mm stick in my mind, so I'm sure it would have been a front filter. It probably had a special anti-ghost type coating so I wouldn't think any make would do.

I wouldn't think the rear filters would have been used in the test.

EDIT: Found the page that refers to the filter being part of the lens design. link

I don't know if you realize it or not, but the Tamron 500mm mirror was designed to have the Tamron UV filter in front of it. There is a test somewhere on the web and the resolution was actually higher with the filter. The only problem is the filters are very rare.
