I have one of those and has worked as well as the original!

To me, the first is too dark - although I like the composition (and depth of field is good!). The second one is the right kind of exposure, but the colours of the toadstools could maybe be a little more vibrant?

They've all increased quite significantly (camera prices too), due to the Yen/Pound exchange rate. Got to wait for the economy to pick back up! Although you can bet they'll be slower to come down than they were to go up...

I'd agree, keep it light and simple, 17-300 is a pretty decent range! If you haven't already got one get a decent (and comfortable) camera bag, made it a lot easier to lug my camera when I went travelling.

Surely it's more to do with shutter speed than flash? They are all much faster than the camera (hundreths of thousandths of a second).

The 10" Sony one looks really nice, but is pretty pricey :S They tend to be quite expensive for the screen size, not all of them are particularly user friendly either. If you have an old laptop lying around you can make one out of that, loads of guides lying around.

Picasa and lightroom do the same thing, but Lightroom is a lot more powerful for editing and correcting images. That said, Picasa is free!

I think Lightroom would probably be more useful to you than Photoshop to start with, I really like it as I have all my photos catalogued and you can do all the editing you need for most photos. (intricate cloning, retouching is best done in PS though) How big is the latop screen? Unless it's really small I'd save the money and stick with it to start with - just make you sure you get the colour management stuff sorted (use Adobe's software thing to start with and get some prints done to make sure all is well).

re the file management, I'm using Lightroom 2 and you can move files and folders around within it quite happily.

I like the first one the best, shame about the dirty water!
