So what makes a macro lense a true macro?

A friend of mine has managed to put the 01 and 02 new firmwire onto the sd card for me,so my Q is now all updated

Has anyone done this? just done mine but am having problems with the filmwire update for the 01 Standard Prime lens and the 02 Standard Zoom

That sounds like it could be some fun. there is such a difference in price range is there anything I should be looking for in a good macro?
