I want to try some Macro shots but don't have a suitable lens. What recommendations re a lens on a budget. I have seen all prices both new and 2nd hand but really need some advice. Don't want to pay hundreds. Camera is a K-r and the shots would be flowers, insects etc.

I have been offered the chance of a Sigma 24 f2.8 Super Wide II lens. Not the AF version. Its clean without fungus.
The seller wants me to make an offer.
Is this lens OK for macro, is it worth buying and what do you think its worth.

Will it work on my K-r?

Well impulse got the better of me and I now have a Pentax DA 55-300. Traded in my Tamron for £40 which is only £30 less that I paid for it three years ago. Picked up a used lens with 6 months warranty for £180 less the trade in. Took a few comparison shots with both lenses before I decided and I could see a marked difference between the two as far as PF was concerned. Maybe to impulsive but time will tell. Thanks to everyone for there advice.

Thanks for all the advice. My biggest criticism of the Tamron is PF. I tend to use the lens at 300 a lot of the time. Also it seems that focusing is soft when using it at the long end. As I paid less than £100 for the lens 3years ago I cant complain but I do get frustrated with it. Now I am wondering if there would be a significant improvement in the Pentax lens. I may see if I can try before I buy. A store local to me has one 2nd hand and will take the Tamron in exchange.

I keep thinking that I want to get a better telephoto lens to replace my Tamron 70-300 F4-5.6 DiLD. Obvious choice seems to be the Pentax 55-300 but should I consider others. The price at £236 from SRS seems to be in my budget. I use the Tamron mainly for wildlife. Camera is a K-r.
Any suggestions please.

The Keys for 5 days then we will go to north and the Everglades. Then coming back via New York (5 Days). Been lucky to visit many parts of America but never Florida so we thought we would give it a try. Going with family including Granddaughter who has been before and wants to show us all the sights.
