Nicely done.
Was the flash diffused at all?

Excellent shot, Jon. I like the composition, but mainly the colours. I like the steel-blue colour of the butterfly's wings. Well done.

Gábor

Thank you all: your generous comments are much appreciated .

In answer to your question, Michael, yes That used is made of white a white material with elasticated edgeing having the form of a small 'shower cap' that is placed over the flash head. The flash was attached to the camera with an extension cord and held above and at arms length from the butterfly. The image was captured '(one) hand-held' using a shutter chosen to obtain a mix of ambient and flash illumination, with the former predominating. All sounds very technical and planned but, in all honesty, I was just fortunate .
