Question

I'm not able to solve this matter so I need your help. Do you prefer the whole compo(no colour)..or square crop (blu marked) or rectangular crop (red marked)? A different file from previous upload but same camera, same BW film, same place and same date. Different process in Topaz: Platinum Collection-Type VIII....a little bit tweaking with curves (medium contrast) and blu filter for same reasons of previous capture. Thanks for help...If you want to throw me rotten tomatoes...No problem...I'm here
Regards
David
I would probably go for the square crop, but the whole image is also very good.

In agreement with David.
All the best

Problem of my picture is the central position of the castle that "unbalance"everything. Square crop works for sure but deletes a part of the context, IMHO. This is the central point of dilemma. In the whole compo the central position of castle makes the whole compo as the work of a clever boy It misses of originality...to correct this feature is useful a square crop.....and we come back to the origin of dilemma....This is the first time I am in such a "blind alley"
Out of your given options I would vote for the whole picture. However if it where mine I would probably experiment with taking a little from the top and somewhere between the red and blue lines on the right hand side, which I think is broadly in line with DrOrloff.
...Thanks so much and whole compo is the most choosen option...till now
Giulio i hope you don't mind, i took the liberty of taking your photo off and removing the coloured lines but keeping your crops, my opinion is the square crop works so much better compositionally and no tomatoes will be thrown
THanks Maria I do really appreciate your words...knowing your art works and your skills I do appreciate twice
Giulio I like it as it is uncropped and taking anything away will remove some of the atmosphere that works so well in the picture. That is just my opinion and that doesn't mean any of the others are wrong and that is also why we all love photography and see things differently..
Thanks Tom
They ALL work in different ways, and as pictures to hang it will depend upon what overall shape suits the location best.
I might even suggest further cropping the top of the red crop to make a wide Panoramic image ?
As they say 'when you've got it, flaunt it !'
Best regards
Peter
I think you've done the 'triple whammy' there Giulio ?

Thanks for both your suggestion and saying (In italian we do have a similar saying). The pano version is an xtremely original idea. Very creative.

I'm a firm believer in that you take what you want in that very moment you push the shutter button. A collection of thoughts and intrinsic feelings tells you, "this is what I believe is right". The latent image sits and patiently waits for the magical process of development. Then, on seeing the result, it shouts out to you "Hey! You captured me just perfectly ". The whole frame please.
THX Gray and welcome back Right words yours! Tigers, Lions, Snakes and the whole magical Nature Kingdome use your "saying"....Only humans loose their chances using "brain"....Freud was used to state that neurosis are due to the loss of all contacts with Nature around us and in taking our brain as first chice to live.Sorry for my simple words. In Italy we do have a similar sayng as your: First "impression"(impact) is the right one....but...but after all above brain tells...Did you forget my opinion?....So I uploaded that photo with marked crops....Brain has been very important for Evolution but is it really important as we are used to believe?Perhaps it is so.....but...but...The other choice is that we have two brains: Emotional and Artistic against Rational. Rational is a criminal in front of the artistic side of what live around us....or Is Rational brain a criminal...???This could be another option....due to brain...My reply is endless as well the choice between whole frame and cropped ones. However after reading all replies I'm going towards whole frame....Anyway THANK you for comment and sorry for my Epic Reply

Ansel would tell you the same
Liked! 😉
Original ratio cropped in somwhat from top right.
This would be my take - the bottom left of image really helps give context to the image
