Last Saturday, Ex LMS 4-6-2 No. 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' took a train of day-trippers from Liverpool to Carlisle (as shown earlier by Cliff-P).
Here is one of my Northbound shots of the train, taken at Scout Green (a location tip from David Trout) on the famous Shap incline in Cumbria.
Fate was against me in the way that the wind was blowing the steam towards me. To reduce the impact of this on the shot, I have cropped some of the train out.
She looks fine in black. Shot as a PEF with K10D/16-45 and converted in Silkypix.

I like the title you have given this image Peter it suits the locomotive well and its always good to see more images of her.
I was chatting to other enthusiasts/photographers at St Helens station on Saturday and apparently there has been many complaints about the all black livery because of the light reflections creating problems with photographs!.

Last Saturday, I bore in mind your comments about the lighting difficulties at Greenholme, David. At least at Scout Green I was the same side as the Sun and the train passed at about 11am. The drifting steam was the bigger problem.
Cliff, I read that when the "Duchess's" boiler ticket was extended for a year, it was realised that her maroon paintwork was in need of attention. As black was a cheaper option, this was chosen for the last year before overhaul.
I will feature shots of 6233 Southbound at Ais Gill, 48151 Northbound at Garsdale on Sunday and 5690 'Leander' Northbound at Ais Gill on Wednesday, in due course.

You were at Ais Gill on Wednesday Peter? So was I. I was on the bridge just north of the summit and got Leander cresting the summit with a long shot and of it picking up speed down the hill. The previous Sunday I got 48151 at Appleby and at Kirkby Stephen.

Shame I missed you David, being so near.
I was about a mile South of your bridge (with the phone mast on the North side), though I did reach there about 20 mins after 'Leander' passed.
I was going to cycle down to Kirkby Stephen, but the weather looked a bit damp over Outhgill so I turned back to Garsdale. I noticed a few cars still parked up as I passed through wearing a bright yellow jacket.
My location for 'Leander' was about level with the Southern portal of the short tunnel just before the summit, so I used telephoto looking down to the approaching train.
'Leander' was barking loudly as she passed, pulling 11 coaches and a dead diesel.
