Z-1P: TTL flash metering question
As far as I know, for any camera to do TTL flash it has to meter the reflected light off the film. What mechanism they use is another matter... according to Bojidar Dimitrov, the Z1p:
The camera has a few weak points too: dust gets to its insides quite quickly, it consumes a lot of power, there is no AA battery pack available for it, and the TTL flash system lacks evaluative and multi-segment TTL flash metering.
Have a look here for general flash technology: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/technology/hot-shoe/index.html
And here: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/bodies/Z-PZ/zpz1p.html for the "bad" news about the Z1p
(It explains why my *istD is soooo much better at flash exposure than my Z1 )

So, the *ist offers multi-segment TTL flash metering, does it?
Regarding the dust issue, do you think that inserting thin strips of felt (or even thin neoprene?) into the "troughs" where the camera back meets the body would help to keep out dust?
Ever heard of anyone doing this to a Z-1P?
Ta again!

The *istD offer P-TTL (preflash TTL) with multisegment
Even better, it offers wireless flash to the AF360FGZ so you can slave multiple flashes, provide contrast-control flash all in P-TTL mode. Cool
The dust issue hasn't really been an issue. I just bough a whacking great bulb type blower. One quick puff and it's dust free However, I haven't been in a rough environment yet (and don't intend to either!).
Don't think I'd mess around putting extra stuff in the camera itself.

I'm hoping you can help with this one?
Does anyone know how the Z-1P handles TTL flash metering when the subject is off-centre?
What metering mode does the camera use to ensure correct exposure of the subject? I understand that other brands such as Canon take a reflected reading from the film, split into a number of zones.
I assume that the Z-1P can only use it's matrix metering when taking pictures without flash? If this is the case, how is the correct exposure of an off-centre subject achieved?
Thanks for your help.
