Ok, can finally afford the K-7 and grip now, but only if I use the insurance money from the claim I put in when my son destroyed the television set. Maybe I should have bought a few less lenses but too late now .

So anyway, we are currently watching a 14" portable in the lounge, I am quite happy but the wife is getting a bit annoyed, especially since we took the tree down and the room looks so empty.

OPTION 1

OPTION 2

Just interested to see what you would do (plus I have always wanted to do a poll question)

The link for option 2 doesnt work for me, am thinking its for the 7D? If so then I would vote for option 1 after all family first.

With the amount of drivel on the box these days the decision is easier than it used to be.

Option 2...after all, divorce isn't as expensive as it used to be

You want peace to be able to take photos?

In that case - I hate to say it - but speaking as a woman - the TV comes first

You have got a decent working camera - yes ?

The 14 ins portable is probably a bit small for the room even though it works .

Get her the TV - you know it makes sense

I'm probably too old to start taking the sensible option now, besides ... the thought of Eastenders in hi def on a 46" tv screen fills me with dread to be honest.

Get the TV and try to make her feel guilty that you couldn't buy the K7 so that she buys you one, then you're both happy
Or doesn't that work any more?

Compromise, get a 40" set, do you need 46"?

Compromise, just get the K7 without grip for now.

So options 1 and 2 together just might work.....sell a couple of lenses to make up the difference if you need to?
Best regards, John

John, Mike keeps saying he should sell his A* 300mm f2.8, with that he could easily funds the K7 so good thinking

I agree with John, option 3.

Get her a smaller set, say 32", and just get the K7 body.

After all, if you get the grip now you've no excuse to call in at SRS and browse...

The other advantage is that, since option 1 is plasma rather than LCD, you will no longer need you have the heating on in your living room

Ah, but if I got just the K-7 then I would lose out on £50 cashback and so miss out on a bargain.

K-7 - £849
Grip - £225

£1074 .. less £30 voucher from previous purchase and £100 cashback from Pentax.

Total : £944.

Go for a K-7 without a grip (for the moment) and a smaller wide screen.
Winners all-round

Mind you it looks like you may have just made your mind up Mike

The Panasonic uses new technology which gives 1/3 of the power consumption of previous plasma sets and is apparently not much more than LCD.

Bit of both; a K7 withot the grip (£849 - £30 - £50 = £769) and a Tesco Value TV (£320) as a stand-in for now to keep the peace.
