Pentax version of this coming?

I wonder if Mr Pentax is working on something like this:- link

Though I think I'm right in saying the collaboration with Samsung is over?

Judging from the interest in the Olympus and Panasonic jobbies, Pentax could be on to a winner if they got it right.

Cheers

From the news that was on the net this is all samsung, they are trying to do it on there own without copying pentax, that's why we didn't see a samsung version of the K7 most likely.

Also now that the KX has a Sony sensor it seems Samsung and Pentax aren't so good friends any more.

This is me though but the camera wouldn't be a Pentax for me without a pentamirror or pentaprism

Also with the 645D coming next year were they need to build a new lens line up I don't think they have the time/resources to also build up a line for a micro format.

That 30mm f2 Pancake looks dead sexy with the blue ring though

Wonder if a K mount adapter would allow AF. :

No scrw-drive in the body so SDM only then.

I had a G1 for a while and it is quite something to see your changes in exposure, white balance etc in the viewfinder. I found the buttons to be a bit small for my pudgy hands though.

Yup, just noticed that.

Manual focus is easy with an EVF as you can zoom the image.

It's an interesting camera that's for sure, I wonder how good the lenses are...

The EVF hasn't pulled me over, it's the lag that does it for me and they seems not so good at low light as well, haven't tried it there.

I'll probably try to buy pentaprism as long as I can.

Ah yes but I don't think the biggest market for the camera is going to bother with manual focus to be honest.

I'm quite surprised that Pentax haven't tried to make a digital ME Super - call it the ME-D, make it a similar size to the original, and go after the PEN cameras with a full K mount SLR that's no larger or heavier than them.

We've talked for ages on here trying to get Pentax to produce a digital MX.

There's not a big enough market for them though...

The problem is thickness.

Film is essentially of negligable thickness, so the ME-Super is only about 2mm thicker than its mount-to-film distance.

With a DSLR you have a relatively thick sensor which must be mounted on a circuit board (and if you want SR I imagine this mounting is substantial). Then the public demands instant review capability so you need an LCD screen with its associated gubbins. You're probably looking at the best part of a CM between the back of the camera and the sensor, and you still have to have the same mount-to-sensor distance you had before or your lenses wont focus properly.

The only way to make a DSLR the thickness of the ME is to forgo K mount compatibility so you can shorten the mount-to-sensor distance.

I suppose you could cheat and have a new mount with an adaptor which is also an extension tube, but I doubt Pentax are very keen to re-design all their lenses for a shorter mount-to-sensor distance right now.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

And to be honest who thinks the K-M and the K-X are too big?

I don't think many would say yes to that and the K7 seems to be the ideal size for most photographers, some find it on the small side but are quite happy with it so going smaller then that isn't the way probably.

I think the thing that it would take to win me over isa very high quality EVF which swivels so you can use it as an SLR and like a TLR (ie so that you can look through the viewfinder when the camera is close to the ground without lying down).

In fact there is nothing to say the the viewfinder needs to be physically attached to the camera at all.

In fact I think I'm going to pop in to the patent office right now...

But to be honest, I think this is the future and I doubt there will be many true pentaprism SLRs around in 10 years time.

Depends, nikon, canon, pentax, olympish and all the other true photography brands have of course the knowledge for making a good SLR.
Companies like Samsung, sony, panasonic, etc, are electronic brands and these EVIL cameras are perfect for them since they don't have to deal with complicated mirror systems.

I think the true photographs brands will keep the SLR alive as long as they can since that's their major thing they have over the electronic brands and of course the lenses.
Also these brands need to make a new lens line up if the distance between the sensor and lens change and I don't think many current user would like that.
