As I've said before, all this clamour for "clarification" of photographers' rights was a Bad Idea.

Whenever we ask authority for clarification the answer is never what we expect or want, but always something worse.

Does that mean the end of 'Police, Camera, Action' and other similar TV shows. I doubt it.

The thing you have to remember is that you can still use the law to challenge them, if they want to go through all the paperwork and then charge you they have to go through court where you can play your cards right and have a high chance of winning and then suing for damages. This is even easier if you are insured properly (especially for professional photographers) as it all ends up practically free.

The irony of all this is that it is done "in order to protect our freedom". Yeah, right...

Where are all these police officers?

The only police we see are driving fast in the hope no one stops them to deal with a real crime.

Around here terrorists could have a field day! Mind there's not a lot left in Bradford for terrorists to blow up!

The council's pulled most of it down and what's left is useless!

Rant over, my main concern is why don't the police (when around) pick on people using camera phones, they are more likely to be up to no good than the guy with the £500+ DSLR?

I've been thinking, I work for my local council as a Park Ranger.

If an officer stopped me in one of my parks I would be able to turn the books on him and ask him to leave the park!

Might just carry the DSLR a bit more this year...

Just listened to that, and basically the photographer being interviewed was saying that taking a photo wasn't a problem publishing it was.

So if you took a photo of anyone in a public place and put it on your Facebook page, they could sue you for invasion of privacy.

Surely that would mean almost every photo in the press is liable for possible prosecution, therefore no more press photographers.

Surely he's got the wrong end of the stick there?

Very interesting.

It seems the police don't know what the law's about and just act as they feel.

Once taken it needs a court ruling to delete the image, an officer does have the right to look at it but that's all. confiscation is theft leaving the officer open to prosecution.

Must remember that.
