Yorkshire is such a nice place!

I went out for a nice drive with my dad a few weeks ago and found this random spot overlooking a picturesque area (but really, most of Yorkshire is worth having a look at). Here are a couple of shots that I managed to clean up. Comments and criticism welcome.

Taken with K-1 and D-FA 28-105

This one was taken with the 10-17 Fisheye in FF mode. The hood causes a very hard vignette that makes an interesting pattern emerge.

Like both of these, some nice light and shade on the hills, i was wondering what you had shot the 2nd one through,
Interesting result.
Good shooting.
I know what i like, If not always why.

Second image looks like you have placed your camera in the muzzle of a gun on a tank.

I noticed that the colours on the fisheye lens (and the DA15) were very punchy with great contrast, while the D-FA 28-105 was a little hazey in terms of contrast. I'm thinking I should have tried the FA31 with that first view just to compare.

That's a striking and creative viewpoint in the 2nd one, well worth exploring more of that sort of angle on things .

I'm put off really by the highlight blow out on the skies, which don't look like you've done anything to control .... you could either expose correctly for the sky and raise the ground in processing, or (the traditional approach) use an ND Grad filter to balance the sky and ground.

Good point about the skies. I'll have a look at the post method (I used the lightroom grad ND to make it stand out, but may have overdone it). Is the problem present in both images?

I'll definitely have a look at getting some grad filters (looking at NiSi as I hear they're very good).

Yes I think the blown highlights are the same in both shots. I think its probably beyond software recovery really, it just needs consideration when shooting next time so that the correct exposure value is set for the sky.

A lot of people here swear by the ''underexpose for highlights / raise shadows in post'' method, assuming you have a camera that can cope with that well. Otherwise its the filters at capture point to re-balance the brightness of sky and ground .... or if using a tripod then multiple exposures at different brightnesses can be shot, in order to combine or blend them with layers in Photoshop., or an HDR processing technique.
