Yet more sunsets

Right, I know I've been rude about one or two sunsets (or more?) that have appeared here over the past six months or so. So now it's time for people to get their own back. My reason for being so - as far as I can recall - was that while the light might have been nice that alone is generally not enough to make a good photo. Now, I'm in two minds about the following so if you are coruscating about them that will get me out of my quandary. Alternatively - you never know - someone may even like them!







By way of explanation what I like about the first is it's simplicity - though I wonder if there's too little going on.

In the second I like the colours and the receding silhouetted headlands and mountains - but is that foreground rock just too murky.

BTW, the first was taken with a DA12-24 & the second with a DA17-70 (both K20D).

No.2 is a cracking shot, very well taken.

I prefer number two, you have more going on compositionally and you have managed to capture the sun without it being blown out. Great shot.

The subtle variations in the light in both sky and water are tremendous and the shaft of light reflected in the water is absolutely stunning

I like them both! I possibly like the first more than the second, but then I change my mind...

I have lot of pics, where "too little is going on". But I still like these. Not love, but like. And I like your first shot too ! I like the calm colors, not the typical orange sunset.

The second one has got more deep colors for sunset. So it is well balanced with more bold rocks. It is Ok for me

I can see why people are drawn to take pictures of sunsets and these are very nice, but, to be honest, I think...no, that's just being churlish.

I need to take more pictures like these that delight the eye and celebrate the beauties of the earth.

Not the stuff I'm going to post tomorrow... you have been warned!

I like them both but some how number two conveys more atmosphere and interest for me

I think the first is the better of the two with regards to composition, the second has too much dark area in the forground, yes I am aware thats what happens with a sunset and thats why I say its the weaker of the two in composition, it needed a different viwpoint, the only problem I have with the first is the sun is too high in the sky, it would possibly have been better to wait till it dropped further.

This is of course been ruthlessly critical and how I would have viewed them had they been my own, not that I wouldn't not have been happy with both anyway

I like them both! Probably number two edges it, the rougher seas add something for me (although I also see the appeal of the calm seas in number one ). The sun in the second is great too!

Impotent spider I know what you mean about the position of the sun in #1, but the angles (between the sun, the headland and the rock) were against me.

Aiki - what on earth are bananafish?!

Which reminds me - in case people thought they were taken here in Sri Lanka - I meant to mention that these photos are from last year's summer holiday in Greece.

I have a habit of saying "a perfect day for bananafish" if there is a scenery so calm, pure, nice, and far from (=contrast to) our damned busy world.

I will keep my eyes peeled, Aiki! If there are bananafish anywhere they'll surely be in Sri Lanka.
