Mine is a Manfrotto focusing rail – I bought it months ago and haven’t got round to using it yet.

That's a different thread really. Kit (expensive kit) you bought and didn't really use. I think I've bought and sold more than one Sekonic Digital Meter, a L508 and L558 off the top of my head. And I keep looking at them like a moth to a flame.

Errrr are you selling your rail? Just thought I'd ask?

Lurking is shirking.!
LOL, Doug, you looking to buy everything?

If it's at the right price, YES

I mean complaining about not using it, Dave is probably desperate to get it off his hands.

I also have a Cokin 'Starburst' filter

To this day they sit in the back of a drawer and every now and again I say I'll try them again but don't. They say I'll throw them out but don't....
I'm still hunting to get something cheap to try out macro. maybe a Raynox or maybe just learn my lesson and but a proper, dedicated macro auto focusing lens...
Cheers,

Sorry to take so long to reply – I had forgotten about this thread and only just noticed it again.

Unfortunately along with a nasty ‘impulse buy’ tick I also suffer from severe hording syndrome (a very bad combination) – so the focusing rail is sat in the ever expanding ‘it will come in useful one day’ box.

I bought extension tubes for about €7, put them on my camera twice, each time couldn't get them to work, they they got stuck, I got a mild panic trying to get them off and vowed never to put them on again.

Try a cheap teleconverter with the glass bits unscrewed?
I did this with an old Jessops TC which had the A contacts but produced terrible images. The A contacts still work and it's more use as an extension tube!

It´s use is far more limited than I thought when I bought it, and I do worry about the camera falling, even when only loaded with a small prime. The problem is, it´s so damn hard to aim the camera at what you want to photograph without it slipping or just drooping.
I´m surprised no-one´s mentioned UV or "protector" filters yet. I have a few cheapies but quickly learned they were best left off the lens.
I bought a third party radio remote rather than the Pentax IR one, as it gives extra flexibility and range. But it´s such a hastle to set up (plug in, switch on etc) that I never use it. I just use the timer. I have had some situations where 12 seconds provided little to get into position, but not that frequently.

The third party one I bought is identical to the Pentax IR one in operation but I find I use the self timer instead. Two or twelve seconds gives plenty of time for any shudder caused by my pressing the button to calm down, and the mirror lockup helps too.
I can't fathom the B setting at all though. On my film bodies it's simple - the shutter will remain open for as long as the button is depressed. I have used this pretty extensively while shooting night scenes and infra-red with a cable release, timing exposures with the second hand of a watch when the camera's shutter speeds don't go slow enough.
The K-m only has an IR remote option but try as I might I can't fathom how to make it keep the shutter open. I've tried the suggestion that pressing once opens and again to close (no dice) and obviously tried holding the button down.
