wifi sd card

Hi,

I'd like to buy one wifi sd card, but I wonder what the impact on the battery could be. Any experience?

Big battery drainage is my experience, not bad if you choose decide which images to send as I thinknit goes into sleep mode between sends.

so it drains more battery only while I send pics?

There are two methods of transmission, send everything on the fly or selective. I choose selective method as i shoot raw, then choose which to send so convert to jpeg in camera then send. If sending raw files it takes ages to transmit raw files due to limitstions of the wifi system speed. This is what drains the battery particulalry if you have auto send on and shooting lots of pics.

Not a problem if you have a spare battery

cabastar does it work the same with all the sd card? Can I just download instead to upload? I.E. with the client (my phone) I choose just the files I want browsing a sort of folder.
I think the brand I want to buy is transcend, I should check how actually it works.

Stick with Eye-Fi they have decent software.
Although I wouldn't mind trying the Toshiba one. It's 16GB
and might be faster when plugged into the PC. My only
complaint about the Eye-Fi is that deleting files when
it's in a PC reader is slow. The Tosh is Class 10.

I just bought a Transcend 16gb. Obviously uses a bit more energy but trying it out in a K30 was a good experience. Give their website a look, it`s not a bad site.

I think transcend is not bad at all, the support seems quite good, since they update the firmware often.
I would risk since the difference in price is considerable.

this may seem a stupid question but would this type of card work with an ipad?
I have been taking and editing more and more pics from my iphone on my ipad and have often thought it would be good to do some from my K5 better still if i could review on a large screen when out and about. Even better still if I could tether to control my K5. Guessing these cards wouldn't do that tho.

well if you shoot in jpg I bet it works...do not underestimate the time to download the photo though, it could take several seconds (even half a minute depending the size) for each photo

The eyefi card works well with the ipad, but to be honest its quicker to just plug in a cheap ebay ipad camera kit.

Other than transmitting photos to an FTP site while you are in the middle of nowhere ( That's in the middle of nowhere which has a Wifi hotspot of course ) why and where would you use a Wifi card?

I have issues to analyze the result of my photos on the tiny camera monitor. When I really care about the photos I want to take (and I have the time to do so), I take with me my nexus 7 as well to use as monitor when I take the photos. I usually shoot in raw+ setting the jpeg file to 6MP so the upload time will be quite fast.

Not with an eyefi branded card it wont ��
