Wide angle prime k mount for Pentax MX?

I am looking for secondhand wide angle prime (24mm?) for use with my Pentax MX with slides. Any suggestions?

Vivitar, Tokina, Cosina, Bell & Howell, etc.?

I would prefer focus action to be same direction as Pentax 50mm and 80-200 I already own. Subject matter is mainly Scottish landscapes.

I would be looking at reviews and sample images from the Pentax K or M 28/3.5, K or M 20/4 and K 24/2.8.

Another contender would be the Sigma SuperwideII which is sharper than the K 24/2.8 but not as 'proper' looking on the MX nor quite as good colour/contrast perhaps... (you can tweak those in PP though...)

The Sigma mini-wide is 28mm, and reputedly very sharp.

The Sigma super-wide is 24mm and is excellent, I have the AF version & had the MF version. Focus is the same direction as Pentax lenses. The AF version is better built but larger. I have yet to use it on my MX, but I certainly plan to.

If you're going for a Pentax lens the K or M 28mm f/3.5 versions are optically similar but both very, very sharp (at least on digital), and made for landscapes. I have both but have not had any opportunity yet to compare them. Anything wider than 28mm in a genuine Pentax lens will not be cheap.

Vivitar 19mm 3.8 will be UW on film...

The K lens is a different formula and supposedly better but both are very good lenses. If you have the choice, get the K (the K versions are usually slightly better than their 'miniturised' M counterparts).

I use a 28mm f2.8 vivtar lens - I like it a lot - this one has the serial number starting with '28'

I only use it on my K10 so I can't say how it may perform in film

Another vote for the Sigma SuperwideII. I also have the Pentax M 28 f3.5 which is very good too. Should be able to get either on ebay for around £50 ...or less if you're lucky.

I have the K28/3.5, the M28/3.5, the A28/2.8 and the K24/2.8. I used to have a M28/2.8 until it was stolen. I doubt that any of those lenses would disappoint you. If pushed, the K28/3.5 is probably the sharpest (as well as being the largest, heaviest and most expensive), but you really need to be pixel peeping to be honest. On the MX I would recommend the M28/3.5 as it is sharper than the 2.8 version, but smaller than the K versions and more in keeping with the body.

The K 24/2.8 is fantastic IMHO.

Other suggestions: Tamron 24/2.5 or 28/2.5 Adaptall 2 - both very good. The 28 is very inexpensive. The Sigma 28/1.8 Mini wide is very good but prone to oil on the aperture and/or lens surface.
