An advice that I read from this forum was, "get what will make you happy". Nothing could be harder! LOL

What do you mean by 'fully sorted out'? Mine was manufactured last July and certainly does not need 'sorting out'

You need good lenses to get the best from any make of camera

Canon don't make any L badged EF-S lenses, but you would be hard pushed to find a better crop sensor lens from any manufacturer as good as their 17-55mm f/2.8 IS (10-22mm is none too shabby either)

That's my opinion, if you don't like it I have others
Can I have one of those others then Leytono?

I bought the 50mm f1.8 the other day ... I am honestly afraid to handle the thing too much incase it falls apart in my hand. I wouldn't put it down on a windy day, it would blow away.[/quote]Yeah, compared with the FA31 (which feels like a spare part for a Mack truck) my 50mm f1.4 should float on water.

If it's not sorted by now it never will be as it appears to be coming to the end of it's model run.

So your spirit level and low tungsten light focusing are OK then?

Well mine certainly are, both were checked after reading about the problems on here, there's a very slight front focus with my 16-50 but its no different in daylight, its not even worth bothering with.

Sorry not to respond sooner - I am having problems with either my K5 or new DA*300 (or both) and am hoping neither have to go back. I am of course the only photographer on the planet to have been somewhat under-astounded by the 'optically astounding' (and survived).
I seem to be faced with a quite severe? case of back-focussing, the problem now is deciding if the lens or the K5 is at fault.
I have spent a great deal of time carefully setting up an AF adjustment chart at various distances and testing the lens on both the K5 and my K20. Add to this that the camera insists in firing the flash twice if using delay with remote (once at the start and again 3 seconds later) plus occasionally causing the camera to crash when using MU.

My K5 was also manufactured in July although I have only owned it a month.

My point is that is that I really can do without these niggling problems, - so I think my earlier comment is justified, although quality control might also be an issue.

For cbrog - maybe you will need to change one or other (K5 or DA*300) and this explains why : link

Thank you for the link Frogfish, that IS interesting although not necessarily encouraging

To the credit of the company who supplied the lens they have offered a full refund against another.

The results obtained from the K5 and the K20 are rather similar, which I suppose tends to suggest that the lens is not focussing properly. How one can prove this with any real degree of certainty, given that there can be other factors involved, I do do not know.

I am hopeful that things can be put right by factoring in the necessary adjustments.

cbrog,

I can now see why you feel frustrated! How does your k-5 perform with your other lenses?

So far the only AF lenses I have used on the K5 are the DA18-135 and the 55-300 and both seem fine.

Roger.

Looks as if it is the DA*300 Roger.
