I see. I have two advantages - not driving - the pubs are open.

Go on, rub it in!

Some of us have to drive, mainly because I need to get home to the damaged boss!

Just out of interest did anybody at Saltaire last week get any pictures of the Black Sherlock look alike? I work with him and he'd very much like to see what you got, if anything.
Cheers, HG

I have heard it's 199 steps to get to the abbey !!! is this true ? - 19 I could mangae, 29 yeah probably once we get to 59 I'd be a goner ..199 forget it lol

I have not counted them, but there are an awful lot and it's steep.

Coming down is worse. Last year I tried the cobbled "donkey road" that runs alongside. Quite a mistake. My right knee has been making creaking noises ever since.

If you hang about near the swing bridge most of the world will pass you by sooner or later!

Wish I could come, but we can't this time.
A few of my photographs in flickr.
Lizars 1910 "Challenge" quarter-plate camera; and some more recent stuff.

I've not counted them either but its got to be around 199. The donkey road which runs alongside is so steep and uneven that the steps are a much better option.
A couple of years ago I found a civilised path from the top and it came out in the narrow street which leads from the bottom of the steps. I emerged unscathed not far from the swing bridge. But if you go this route you miss a lot of Goth on the steps.
Is it worth going up the steps any more, since the church authorities banned photography on the graves?

Black Sherlock ???

He was dressed in a deer stalker and matching tweed jacket, giving the impression of Sherlock homes, and he has the darkest skin I've seen in years.

He also has a great sense of humour and dazzling smile.

He told me he'd been talking to 8 Pentax users last saturday and he was very interested to see what they'd got.

The only black guy I remember Dave was wearing a top hat, and I didn't get a shot of him either, if your guy did speak to us I must have had my attention elsewhere, either that or senility is setting in

I only saw him once after the initial conversation at Caroline Street social... But he was rushing about and grumbling to himself so I didn't bother snapping him...
