I know build materials and quality don't improve the image output, but aesthetics and 'feel' are all part of the pleasure afaic.
And btw, you can still print big from Q shots.

Same here, I agree.

I like the whole concept of the Q series and it is an amazing little camera, but I wouldn't buy one until Pentax include a built-in viewfinder and tilt-screen. I don't like holding a camera out in front to compose a shot. At least with the MX-1, with the screen tilted up, it can be held against the body like a TLR, which gives a much clearer view of the screen in bright ambient light.
Cheers.

*But that is the beauty of the Q....."it's quirky, innovative, polished but not perfect, brilliant but not brushed".....it's a Pentax!!*I like the whole concept of the Q series and it is an amazing little camera, but I wouldn't buy one until Pentax include a built-in viewfinder and tilt-screen. .....and before any of you buggers steal my (marketing concept) lines for Pentax/Ricoh camera advertising I hereby LICENCE the above and demand all Royalties be paid to me in respect of republishing part or whole of the above* !!. I will however happily swap it with Ricoh for a job

You might need to back that comment up with a link to a reliable source because that's quite a statement seeing as MFT system camera sales are on the increase as well as APS-C mirrorless system cameras.
What do you suppose is going to replace mirrorless system cameras when DSLR sales are falling?

I can find links that suggest the opposite but nothing that would corroborate that. I believe all the major manufacturers have produced new models this year.

The comment came from a reliable camera shop when I asked about about the Q cameras.
Maybe its just the Q system that being phased out, hopefully Ricoh will have something else lined up.

So what was this camera store trying to push?
Perhaps you mean 'an employee' in the reliable camera shop who was trying to make his sales quota with stories. I'd ask him for clarification because quite frankly the comment is absurd. Compact System Cameras (and that means mostly Micro Four Thirds, Canon M and Fujifilm X mount) are most certainly not going away.

The Q system has been hugely successful, I seriously doubt Ricoh will be dropping it.

Hi all, Camera manufacturers are struggling with amateur sales in the light of the success of smartphone cameras. Samsung backing out, Olympus had to be bailed out, sensor makers merging etc.
I noted a while back that 84% of Ricoh/Pentax sales are in their home market. I also gather the Q system is popular in their home market. With the lack of camera shops for most of us I think 2016 will be a struggle and will concentrate on high end gear. Mirrorless means smaller and lighter for the consumer so I guess it will continue to make inroads into DSLR sales. I'll keep lugging my K3 and lenses and look out for a cheap GR for pocket use.
