Q 08 Lens

Has anyone tried the 08 wide telephone lens yet?
I was looking at it but price is very high still don't think I can justify the expense for this tiny lens....

Yes it is expensive but it's probably my favourite Q series lens. I got mine from Microglobe.

I had to buy the matching hood direct from Japan but I see a JJC clone is now available on eBay.

I've not done a side by side comparison of the of the 08 compared with the 02. There is some overlap of the two zoom ranges but I gather the 08 is 17.5mm (35mm equiv) compared to the 02's 23.5mm (35mm equiv) on the larger sensor Q series bodies. At these short focal lengths a small difference can be quite significant. In confined locations one is grateful to all the width one can get.

I do feel that the 08's image quality is a little more crisp than the 02's.

Almost bought one but turns out it will come from Japan which is a major hassle here as government confiscated and you've got to go personally through miles of red tape and paying another 20% import duty.
All EU sellers prices are ridiculously high so will bide.my time for an auction....

+ £8 PO handling fee. However some packages get through unmolested by red tape. I had a £100+ electronic gadget get though from Canada delivered without additional fees recently, and the value and content was honestly stated on the label.

If the lens + import duty + VAT + PO handling fee is still less than purchasing locally then possibly worth the risk if the seller is reliable, and who knows, the customs folk might give you a belated Christmas present and not bother to add any import fees!.

Perhaps in my case, it was over the Christmas period and everyone at HMRC was out celebrating!

Unfortunately here in Deutschland things aren't so simple. ..
Handling fee is 10 euros + 20% value...so on the 370 Euro lens....puts it up to over 450 euros...way too much for any individual Q product.
By at least 200 euros!!!!!

Not to mention the whole red tape routine...
It takes almost 30 minutes if there is no queue and you have all the correct paperwork....
If there's 5 or 6 folk in front your morning us gone as there are only 1 or 2 folk on the desk.
I've had to make 3 journeys on worst occasion when my wife received a sari as a birthday present from an Indian friend.
Had to get conclusive proof that we actually new them and that we were friends ...then that it was actually my wife's birthday....
Gestapo have nothing on these gits...
There worse than the customs and excuse in the Uk....
I had a buy from USA come which I'd paid 0.99 plus 3 euros postage just left it as not worth the hassle of going to collect then all the grief as they don't believe it's only that amount...the thieves even charge a percentage on foreign postage....
At least that was Amazon so I got my 3,99 back no questions....
