Which one next?

Hello everyone =)

I currently have the K100D Super SLR. I'm starting to outgrow it in shooting speed, mirror lag, physical size, and no dedicated RAW button. Looking for a better cam with some more professional features.

The mirror lag/slap is terrible on this camera, its so loud also. When shot side by side to a Canon 30D (I worked with a pro a while back)
at 1/250 shutter speed, the Canon can do 2 shots for every 1 of my Pentax
and the reason for that is the time it takes to get the mirror out of the way of the sensor. (looking for a cam with much less and quieter mirror lag)

Also, the playback screen lies! All photos look absolutely stunning (sunsets and shadows mostly)but when viewed in photoshop the photo looks like crap! None of the vivid colors or detail of the sunset or there is not enough shadow.

Not interested in the K-x... The deal breakers about it are the lack of the info LCD by the shutter button and no AF points in the viewfinder.

What I like on my Pentax- left hand photo playback button, shake reduction, and the amazing photo quality.
What I need- a more photo accurate screen, RAW button, faster shot-to-shot time, weather resistant, and HDR/dynamic contrast would be nice.

So after all of that, my question becomes, which SLR would you recommend to me?

Be Interesting!

From a speed/performance perspective, it has to be the K-7. Also has a lovely screen and hdr. The k20d offers great iq but isn't half as refined and I think you'd be disappointed with the continuous shooting frame rate. The K-x is also a faster camera than the k20d, don't dismiss it out of hand.

But I think you're already looking for confirmation that the K-7 is the way forward, right? Your wish list coincides with the K-7 feature set almost perfectly

I think K7.

I upgraded from a K100D Super to the K20D and the shutter doesn't seem any quieter to me, in fact it's still bloody loud! No in-camera HDR either.

IMO the K-7 is better in every respect when compared to the K20D with one exception. The IQ is slightly better on the K20D.

Don't ask me why, I just can't put my finger on it but the K20D (I only had it for a few weeks) seemed a bit sharper.

The K7 is a really versatile DSLR. I have found the continuous shutter speed rate ample, and it's size is perfect. Build quality is the best you will get in it's price range. IQ? Shoot in Raw with a good lens and I doubt that you will have any issues with IQ. However, even if there is any issue regarding the IQ, it can be managed in CS5 or Lightroom.

I think the image quality of the k20 and k7 are the same, iso noise from 1000 up on the k20d is slightly better in jpeg, but i think raw is the same.
The k7 is smaller and has more weather sealing and better build quality the the k20d(and the k20d is built well), also the k7 has faster fps also the video and few extra thing.
if you want a bigger camera the k20 it is.

A couple of months ago I would also have joined in the condemnation of putting video in a DSLR, but having recently tried my hand at AV and realising the potential of been able to include short video clips I am now seriously considering the K7 or at least waiting to see what Pentax offer us next (so I can get a K7 cheaper)
