Before you asked why ANYONE (your caps) would want video on a DSLR. Now you are saying that you personally would find no use for it. Different things entirely.but to respond to rparmar - I`m not a journo,no I haven`t priced the lenses,I don`t take video, and I have DOF preview on my *ist,K100 and K20 already.
Just to clarify (for anyone else reading), I was not talking about DOF preview, but rather the ability to control DOF with large aperture lenses, an ability common to SLRs but costing a fortune on video cams.
I figure: if I can have video as a bonus on my still camera, then why not? There is no evidence that the K-x and K-7 cost more for this feature. And if it's there I might even fool around with it. Plus it saves me money on buying a videocam.

Wow, I don't know how I did it, but it looks like you all had fun all with a tangent on video lol
Anyways, I'm renting the K-7 this weekend to see how it does/what it can do for me, wish me luck and the money to pay for the real deal in August =)
thanks so much!
Pentax forever!

Well I wish my kettle would have an internet connection.
But seriously, while I haven't any grudge against DSLR's providing a video feature the video recording feature defeats the whole concept of photography IMHO. Photography is about capturing a moment. And even if the moment just before or just after was better the point is you've got a 'moment'
Personally I can get more out of a still than a video of the same scene as it allows my brain to pause and think about the content.
IOW, I'm not interested in video features. I want to capture the moment. Stills of historic events are much more poignant, enigmatic and charismatic than any video/film newsreel.
Which is why we are all into photography right?

"HD CRTs still obtain the best picture quality for HD. The only problem here is that is they aren't made for the consumer so you have no choice. They are also very expensive to make. They are often used in the television industry and can cost around £15,000-£20,000. Samsung did make one for around £600 a couple of years ago but it never took off, as part of the attraction of plasma or LCD tvs are that they are flat, sleak and look cool. They are also now improving all the time and if you ever get the chance to buy the Pioneer Kuro 50" or more Plasma TV, believe me you won't be disappointed.....although you might be by the £3000+ price tag on it".

Yes that's why but for a record a video holds more information about the event or a person so they fill each other up quite nicely.

All this indicates to me is that you haven't seen any good videos/films.IOW, I'm not interested in video features. I want to capture the moment. Stills of historic events are much more poignant, enigmatic and charismatic than any video/film newsreel.
Tonight watched I Am Cuba, every frame of which is a fantastic still and the sum total being much greater than the parts.
I don't think any medium is "better" than any other. Pitting them in this way seems futile.
