The Tamron is much more widely celebrated, though the Sigma is sufficiently obscure that I don't know what (if anything) is "wrong" with it to make it less hyped than the Tamron. As the previous poster said, don't look back: the Tamron is an extremely good lens (sharper wide open than Pentax's £700 DA* 16-50 according to some reports) and well worth it.

Price maybe, the Tamron is 15 to 20% cheaper?

As a popular TV guy would say, "there is only one way to find out..."
Sorry, I couldn't help

The Sigma, on paper, is better for closeip/'macro-esque' shots. But S someone said u less you have a dedicated macro lens....

I think they are probably both quite similar in IQ. The Tamron has slightly higher user ratings at PF, and might possibly be a tiny bit sharper, but on the other hand the Sigma has the pseudo macro which would be useful if you were on a walk with just one lens.
It really boils down to the extra 1mm wide angle, or the semi-macro. I think the IQ difference is probably minimal.

I ordered the Tamron lens yesterday. Someone just pointed out the Sigma on Ebay for a good price. It's too late to change but I'm just wondering which is considered a better lens & why?
