LBA strikes again!

I thought I had my LBA under control, I'd collected a budget range of focal lengths, going from 17-4000mm without adapters (a fish eye converter & numerous TCs - totalling x72! extending the range further)

Unfortunatly for the bank balance, I've just won a 10-17 zoom on e-bay, which has come to nearly 3* the cost of any of my previous lenses.

For those of you with experience of LBA, does this mean I'm now going to end up getting a whole new set of lenses of higher quality (* or limiteds)? or is there another way to keep it under control?

I was watching that ... walked away once it went over £250.

That was originally my plan too.
I ve been after one for months, and the temptation this time got to much.

I keep mine under some semblance of control by restricting what I look for. I have common but decent zooms covering 18-300mm, and primes in 28, 40, 50, 55, 120, 135 and 200mm. Now I look for:

Any K series lenses - particularly primes
A couple of missing M series primes - the 100mm and 50mm f1.4

This means that I scan ebay daily but seldom click "sign in" and buy anything!

I have my LBA under control. If I buy something new something old has to go. If I don't use a lens much it goes. My 10-20 went some time ago.

Currently contemplating giving the 50-135* the elbow.

If you are happy with the lenses you have, and it sounds like you are, then why start buying a whole new lot. If you want better IQ from * and ltds then sell what you have first, or you will not sell them. That is when LBA really hurts the bank balance - when you have a shelf full of unused glass.

I was watching that 10-17. you got it for a good price.

I have one. I think I paid about £340 for mine. You'll love it. best fun lens I ever bought and it's really good quality too.

I originally only had budget lenses, but since the 10-17 I have bought a DA* 50-135, an A 50mm/f1.2 and tomorrow I'm getting an FA 50mm/f1.4 delivered.

Yes I have LBA and I'm proud

One I was watching earlier went for just over £200 - The combination of the sellers location (Latvia IIRC) and zero feedback made me cautious on that one, and I was saved from last minute temptation by things getting me away from my desk at work. I've wondered if the lens ever arrived - but I didn't keep a note of the seller & I can't find it listed among the completed auctions, so I'm unlikely to find out.

I've certainly heard plenty of good reports for them - I look forward to seeing how it compares with my fish-eye adapter - I think that only manages 160-170 degrees with a circular image.

Shooting with a fish-eye is like dancing with yourself.
Listen to my albums free on BandCamp. Or visit my main website for links to photography, etc.

hehe - this is true. I'vehad to clone my feet out of several shots from being careless.

I must get a monopod to use as a boom arm and use my remote cable!!

Its arrived - no extra packaging beyond the Pentax box & a thin sheet of brown paper - but it seems OK. Pentax have obviously designed their boxes fairly well.

I hope to get the chance to play with it tomorrow...
