Which lens advised

"inadequate" at photographing animals in what way? - length, aperture (f-stop), autofocus speed, quality of image (sharpness/colours), erm...etc etc... there's lots of options out there, just need to narrow-down where you want to improve...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

Sorry about that,
Definitely focal length, hence the stay out of reach remark.

Totally agree with John - I take mine everywhere. Good value, light and easy to use. (If you wanted even more reach I don't know whether it would work well with a TC - probably loose too much light?)
But a very worthwhile lense.

Just bought this lens Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 Zoom Lens Tamron for £85.=
The Pentax 55-300 went for £190.= yesterday, which was a bit further than I wanted to dig.

I blame the pesky animals, who probably spotted what kind of lens I had and decided to stay out of reach
What lens would you wizards advise as a all purpose lens??
