Hi All
As i know nothing about using remote Flash units only the built in one, and i've been reading other post on this subject and am totaly confused.
My question is what flash unit would be of help to me for macro and general use on my K10D it does'nt need to be the best but one that will be easy for me to use (not silly money and does'nt need to be new).

Thanks
Richard

Richard,
Personally I would get the Pentax AF360-FGZ. Around 160 new and will offer wireless P-TTL, wireless "A" and "M" modes as well as all features when connected to the hotshoe.
A genuine Pentax flash will ensure best compatibility with all bodies (both past and future).
If buying second hand, just check that both lugs are still there on the battery cover

I agree, the 360 is a very good flash (i have 2) and it works well for macro also. Just get a diffuser for it or use it off camera.
I echo Matts words, Check the battery compartment locking lugs if buying second hand.

Using flash for macro work is not mandatory. With the right flash setup the lighting is more even with shadows reduced to a minimum. This tends to reveal some parts of the subject that you might not otherwise see.

If the lighting is right, you don't need flash. You can always use a reflector and available light to 'fill' areas of shadow.

Any others beside Pentax.
What about a ringflash are they any good and does it also need to be a Pentax compatible model. I'm going to a camera fair in a couple of weeks so i will be able to see whats on offer.

Ring flashes have been discussed at length just recently. There are 2 threads just down the list .
But there are no P-TTL compatible ring flashes currently on the market, that i am aware of anyway

I have one of these for my K100ds which I like a lot. Plenty of power and good value.

I was going to get a pentax 540 but decided to wait until these came onto the Aussie market. The 58 AF 1 is another option. But still no sign of them
