macro ring flash for a K1000

I'm still madly in love with my K1000 and I still print my own images in the darkroom.

But, I desperately want a macro ring flash for the K1000.

Has anyone got any recommendations and does anyone know where I can buy one (I'll even have second hand).

I've seen some on ebay from the USA for around £45 that state that they are suitable for digital as well as film cameras.

I have just picked up one these from e-bay for my K10, Pentax TTL Ring Flash AF080C, I know its not P-TTL compatible but it should work ok in Manual. I haven't got it yet so i can't say how good or how bad it will be.

As far as I know the cheap flashes you see on e-bay should be ok with the K1000.
Pentax also use too make another ring flash AF140C but they are hard to get hold of and expensive.

Here's a tip, Clarky.

Your AF080C is an excellent flashgun, but it will only fit lenses with a filter diameter of 49mm.

However, thanks to the digital crop factor, it will happily work on your K10D with the FA 100mm 1:2.8 (58mm filter diameter) using a stop-down ring, and with NO vignetting.

Thanks George i did a bit of research on that before purchasing.
I now have the D-FA 100mm f2.8 Macro which has the 49mm filter

You're buying lenses so fast, Clarky, that your sig needs continual updating.

But what applies to the FA 100mm will also apply to your Tamron, if you ever use it again. It will be interesting to learn which of the two you prefer (Tamron 90 or Pentax D-FA 100mm).

So do you have this Ring Flash George:
The guy i brought it off has included 2 step up rings 49-52 and 49-55
so i will be able to use it with the Tamron. And i will be interested with the results when i compare it with the Pentax.

Now where have I heard that before?

I do have the AF080C (see my sig!), and it's excellent. The guide number (8!) seems low on paper, but I haven't needed more power. It's "adequate", as Rolls Royce used to say in the days when they didn't publish the horse-power of their engines.

Thats good too know, the one i have coming has no manual but i haven't looked for it yet either, so may need to bend your ear if i get stuck with anything

This one's web is missing the 'stabilamentum', the zig-zag shape through the centre of the web. Peter's shows it nicely.

Not sure how many Argiopes use it, so I could be wrong to say it's bruennichi.

P.S. Apparently they can bite, but it's not harmful. They prefer grasshoppers and crickets. The park I work at has a wildflower meadow where 200 of these were counted alongside one 100m path. The meadow's about 30 acres. Probably several thousand of them dotted about. Surprising we've got any grasshoppers.
