Which AA batteries for K-x??

Hi, for my K-x I am using AA-Lithium batteries, which for my first set, when I bought the camera from new lasted for a long time, however, any new set I put in, the battery life indicator on the camera appears to go amber very rapidly.

What AA batteries are you using??

I bought these. And happy with them in my K-x. No idea how many pics I get from a set, but enough for me not to worry about it. And the charge indicator does stay on green for a while.

Have you updated the firmware since you got the camera?

Try Ansmann rechargeables. I have two sets and they seem to go on for ever. Worth the extra cost.

The Lithiums I got with my K-m lasted ages, they are very good. They are expensive if you want to buy them everytime.

My advice would be to buy a couple of sets of Eneloops and a charger, then keep a new set of Lithiums in your bag for transferring into warm pocket should the temperatures drop (they seem to work better than Eneloops in the cold).

I use Eneloops in my K200, and they feel like they last forever!

i too use eneloops, work well and hold charge for ages when not used

I hope eneloops are good 'cause I've got some free with the K-x I've just ordered!

I use Eneloops with my KX. I have had issues this winter with them flashing red even though they had been fully charged the day before. The temperature was about -5 deg C. The batteries are about 12 -14 months old and have been charged/used about 20 times.

I have the camera set on the auto-recognise batteries setting. Changing to manual selection of batteries made no difference - nor did the usual trick of loading a set and waiting a few minutes before switching on.

Anyone have any thoughts? Its certainly always good to have a set of lithiums in the bag! They are working fine again now its not freezing.

Batteries just don't like being cold - you need to keep them inside a pocket, so-to-speak , insulated from the cold .

... which is why I have 3 batteries for the k10 and again for the new k5. Keep one in a warm pocket and 2 in the cam, change as necessary.

I'm using Energizer Ultimate Lithium. Averaging over 1500 shots on a set. Energizer has several types of lithium but the ultimate ones really last longer.

I use Powerex 2700mAh, as recommended by a pro photographer in an English photo mag. I've also got Sony CycleEnergy 2400mAh, and Eneloop 2000mAh. They all seem fine, with the Powerex's top of the list.

Good point about the cold weather and batteries. I also had my K10 with its dedicated battery and that combo never faltered. I took a set of eneloops from my trouser pocket and they also struggled to power up the KX.

Is there a difference between the rechargeable technology used in the Pentax batteries and that used in the hybrid AAs? Or could it be that the KX doesnt like -5 deg?

Are all hybrids the same or could it be that the Powerex ones might behave better than the Eneloops if only because they have a higher capacity?

Would be good to get to the bottom of this so that I'm better prepared for next winter. Cheers all.

Pentax batteries are rechargeable Lithium, hybrid AAs are NiMh.
