The trial version is for the latest v.10. If you follow Steve's link at the foot of page 1 of this thread, it takes you to a page where you can download the full v8 free, which although not the latest version, is still very good indeed.

Once you're in, you have three stages at top left of the screen, browser, editor, output (or something like that, I'm not at my PC). The output page has all of the saving options, JPEG, TIFF etc etc.

But do it quick! Today is the last day. The program will download it's required plugins for your DA camera/lens combinations as it detects the photos.

How do you save after editing a photo?

I use DXO a lot (v10) but it is missing a few features that Lightroom has; the one I wold like to see most of all is the grad filters. I would also like to be able to import files into DXO from LR with some adjustments, but it just imports the out-of-camera RAW file. For noise reduction, it works very well on Pentax DNG files, better than LR.

I often find I can adjust the WB better in LR, so re-import edited DNG files back into LR for further tweaks.

Imo, LR is a stand-alone solution, whereas DXO needs to be used in conjunction with another program to get the best from it. It's a great program nonetheless.

Agree totally with this, in my case I use DXO 10 and Sagelight together (Sagelight does have a grad filter tool)

DXO also lets you save a processed file as DNG, whereas other processing software I have used (Raw Therapee, Sagelight, Helicon Filter, GIMP, Photomatix) only saves as TIFF or JPEG. I always save as copies by the way, so the original RAW file is retained.

I have a problem with DXO. I'm using windows 7 and when I have processed the image and check it in my pictures folder. All I get is a white square which is a pain. Also a message says it can't read the file.

How can I correct this please?

Can you confirm whether you are using the trial v10, or the full programme v8?

In v8, the steps at top left are organize/customize/process. Once you have edited your picture, go to 'process' where it lists all the formats that you can save in, including DNG as Stephen notes above. Just tick the output you want, make sure the picture is highlighted in the picture selector and press the 'start processing' button - or just drag the image into the processing box.

I'm using Windows 7 also, and am having no issues. The programme is pretty processor-intensive, and there is an option in the edit/preferences that allows you to use your graphics card for processing.

If you got it from my link earlier, then it's not a trial version.

There will have been an activation code displayed when you downloaded the programme, then when you ran first it, there was an option to enter the code to activate it. If you still have the code, then there is probably an option somewhere in the menu system to enter it.

Doubt that very much.. You're overreacting to what would be an explainable error. Maybe your security software/firewall was interfering with access to the secure server...

Whoa nelly, that's some strong words in there when others have successfully taken up this offer...
