Looks to me it is a macro rail. used with a tripod to move the camera in very small amounts to achieve focus.

They must be breeding! I 'found' one the week before last, at a car boot.

Very useful for macro fine focus and composition. A good find.

Oh, not a Damien Hirst coat-hook then?

it's not a pano head.

pano heads have side to side and front or back adjustments so you can calibrate for zero parallax errors. The lens must rotate around it's entrance pupil

Actually it could be used as a horizontal pano head thinking about it. the adjustments allow entrance pupil parralax adustment

Funnily enough, the one I found was attached to a rotational head and an L bracket like this link but they strip down to three units, the rotational unit, the L bracket and the X - Y table. The X- Y on it's own, like your one, can be used as a Macro rail

Nice find though, hope it was a bargain!

Welldont know what is it worth so it might be a bargain but might be not...

But we all know what are the prices like on carboot

No it wont work as a pano head as it wont go that far to allow the camera turn around its entrance pupil unless you have a pankake lens.

Where isthe entrance pupil on DA 15mm f4 limited with K30? Might work considering that the lens is pretty small
