Phat,

A little analogy.

I was cooking my dinner in the microwave last night. The box said to use full power for 5 mins. My dinner was still a bit cold in the middle. Tonight I think I'll try 50% power for 10 mins. Captain Birdseye might be none too pleased but I think it might just taste better. Undertand this and you will understand exposure.

Enjoy

Phat,

If you don't take some shit photos then you will never learn. Nobody need ever see them but yourself. Learn from them and throw them away.

I have been a landscape photographer for nearly 10 years and still throw away half of what I shoot. You must accept that this is the only way to improve.

B mean "bulb". It means that the shutter is left open as long as your finger is on the shutter release button. It is used for long exposures. I wouldn't use this unless you have the camera on a tripod and you have a cable release. There will be too much vibration if you handhold using bulb.

Keep it simple for now.

Put the camera on a tripod, switch off the flash, use the biggest aperture available f3.5 and shoot with the shutter speed your camera suggests to balance the aperture. You can't go wrong.

Well, how can you expect to ever take quality photos without a Tripod. If your going to act like this you are CLEARLY not old enough to appericate the quality of SLR photorgraphy. Go and sell your P30 and lens, and buy a 3 or 4 megapixel Digital Point and Shoot.
Thankyou for finally coming clean Andy, for a moment there i thought you were taking some form of Marijuana.
Once again, the adivce on the Kodak box is useless, as Kodak can not tell you what settings to use in particular lighting conditions. Always rely on the Camera light meter. Anyway AFAIK, Kodak does not have camera settings on the side of the box. Also to clarify, i am in Australia as well not the UK.

That is strange because i looked at a Kodak Max 3 Pack today and it did not display anything of the sort. Although i never use Kodak Max anyway, i use Kodak Gold 200.

I am only thirteen so i dont know anything about camera's and i was just wondering what aperture is and how to use it? for the moment i just use Programed AE mode because i dont know how to use metered mode because the users manual is complicated. i dont get what the 22 16 11 8 5.6 3.5 means? on the aperture ring or something!

PLEASE HELP!

What a bizarre thread this has been - highly amusing

Whether genuine or not, we all had to start somewhere and there's no better starting point than the camera instruction book!
Read it, relate the details to the camera itself and then read it again, eventually it will all make sense. The camera manual is probably the most useful and most over-looked bit of kit as it often ends up in a draw or stuffed into a pocket in the kit bag. Often people will buy expensive books when the answers they seek are contained in the manual - it really does have all the information you need to start using the camera effectively and often includes details of more advanced techniques.
Armed with the knowledge contained within the manual's pages and a few rolls of film, you should go out and shoot any and everything that grabs you attention, experiment with settings and viewpoints and you'll learn about photography quicker than you could ever have imagined but you'll never know it all!
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

Well said Kimbo.
Only thing is that i dont think Phat understands what he is reading and thus my conclusion that he was startting to high with a Manual SLR Camera.

firstly it has in small red writing on the back "lift flap for film information.

you have to life the two main flaps out then the flaps inside have it - u have to buy it to see.

secondly i do read the book but some stuff is hard to understand

thirdly i cant just pull $300 or $400 out of my arse and go buy a digital camera

fourthly - i went today and it turned out quite well i used the shutters speeds the display said to and i think all the photo's will turn out fine> i went at the time where there sky is a light dark blue but the buildings are darkend but still reflect.

this is a geniune thread

This has been a great thread.

Phat will get there in the end with his SLR if he keeps practicing, reading and doesn't worry too much about his tripod street cred.

I would keep that $400 up your arse for now Phat. It might come in handy when you need that field camera in a few years.
