Cos of its closeness to resemblng the K7 features. Still drawn to K7 , just be different and to be able to answer " cos for" when asked why I bought it LoL
Which would one you lot go for and why..unbiassed opinons only ..don't forget I'm just getting back into it all, previous kit no more !

The Pentax because it works fine for me
If I was starting from a blank canvas..... it would be difficult to decide but I think I'd probably still tip in the direction of Pentax
Now with the benefit of hindsight....
Feature wise it's great, handling and operation are spot on for me (with or without the grip). The K-7 Image quality is excellent IMO. Weather and dust sealing is high on my agenda and the K-7 with DA* lenses put one healthy big tick in that box
Pricing is now much better than when it was first released.... and I prefer not to follow the masses (though not saying that there anything necessarily wrong providing the products warrant it).
All in all I'm very very happy with my K-7

I think its certainly better than the 50D (even the 40D is better in some respects by all accounts). When I went to look at the K-7 the shop told me the 50D wasn't anywhere near as good (and they are all Canon shooters). However the 7D may be another matter, although it's going to be quite a bit more to start with (Think the 7D will drop in price quicker than the K-7 though).

Seems like you are keeping an eye on the 7D Mike , are we going to have another debate between Pentax and 7D this time? , I think the novelty of the D300 has faded, we hardly have been hearing about it lately However the 7D may be another matter, although it's going to be quite a bit more to start with (Think the 7D will drop in price quicker than the K-7 though).
We need another contender in the ring, in comes the 7D now flexing its muscles

That will pretty much always be the case, very occasionally development seems to move forward only to take a slightly backwards step. The trouble is Amin that there is always something better around the corner
I understand this may have been the case with the 40D to 50D. I have to admit that the 7D looks a nice camera but for me it immediately falls down on environmental sealing in comparison to the K-7.

Canon would get my vote: you can use M42 and almost all K mount glass. I suspect the 7D may also be at the same level as the Nikons for low light performance. Otherwise, I think from limited experience Canon handling is better than Nikon.

Nikon higher end bodies can also meter with my Adaptall 2 lenses which Canon is unable to do (as I understand it) due to the mount change a few years back.
Saying that if Canon can get the same low light performance as the D300 with a 18MP sensor then I can see real panick in the Nikon camp.
A 1.6 18MP crop sensor with 8fps will make a excellent wildlife/sports camera "IF" the all new autofocus system performs as they say it will.

Have to say write up on latest Nikon300s makes for interesting reading .
One just has to face up to the fact whatever you buy will be out of date in 12 months time( or even less).
