I also don't have a problem with non-Pentax shots winning. I think at the time we said if the submitter is a member of the forum (which usually implies they are using Pentax cameras) it's fine to submit shots from any camera.
In this case, though, the person has only just joined the forum when submitting the pic and hasn't looked in the forum since. The competition entry was the only contribution so far.
I think once judged it's settled (and there are no prices to quarrel about). I fear, however, that Darkmunk will have to do the homework after all in spite of coming second... (but he got the highest ranked Pentax entry )
Maybe we should wait another day if kacsoisti does stop by and sets the next competition.

I dont have a problem with the occasional picture from other cameras being entered or even winning the competition (I am sure some of us have other cameras too) I agree with Darkmunk its the picture that matters but it does nark me when people join, put one post in the comp and then potentially dissapear never to return and I am not sure how we can fix / prevent that from happening :
All cameras are equal but.....
Some are more equal than others

I'm with Hefty on this - it is a Pentax/Samsung forum and I think the comp photos should be from Pentax/Samsung cameras. There are plenty of other forums around for other brands, what makes this forum is special is that it is only for Pentax/Samsung, and is why I stick around here.
It also narks me off that people join just to enter the competition and never contribute to the forum
It is good to see some new members here though - all that attention in the mag must be paying off!

I posted my thoughts on the subject under the Competition itself.

Hi all,
I am a relatively new menber and this is my first post to the forum, although this week's comp. was the second one I have entered. The reason I havent contributed before was that I found all the answers to any questions I had (and much more) by simply doing a search of the forums, and seeing what a mine of information it was. Also, with being new, I don't yet feel competent enough to offer any advice to anyone. I'm sure I would have contributed all in good time.
I have entered the comp. and posted to the gallery as a way of getting useful and friendly advice from the members, and found any comments to be very valuable.
I had felt that this was a friendly and useful place to visit. However, some of the comments on this thread and under the competinion section (regarding people entering but not posting on the forum)have made me feel a little uneasy about entering again. I'm hoping someone can put my mind at ease, and that this site isn't 'cliquey' like some others.

You're right that there was no specific rule, but there was always an assumption that members of a Pentax forum would be using Pentax (or Pentax made Samsung) cameras.
Just let it go this time, it's too late, but perhaps we could bear it in mind for future competitions.

Hi Haworth!I'm hoping someone can put my mind at ease, and that this site isn't 'cliquey' like some others.
I only post here, so can't say whether it's any more or less 'cliquey' than anywhere else. However, it's generally very friendly, the only problems tend to arise when something new happens (and this thread is still the aftermath of that) or when someone new posts a comment that's taken out of context (seems to happen most often in the 'for sale' section, where people tend to be a bit wary, rightly so).
I have to admit to reading some of these posts with alarm. Personally I couldn't care less if someone only posts images in the Gallery/Competition, what does it matter if they don't choose to join in with the forum? And as far as what camera they used? Again, couldn't care less. I think of this as a photography forum/site first and foremost, that is populated by Pentax Users. If the odd pic is taken with some other camera? Oh well, not the end of the world.
If kacsoisti never returns? Well then Darkmunk's got some judging to do next week, and everything carries on as normal. No big deal.
Lighten up everyone, it's only a game.

Hello Haworth!
Don't worry, this forum is one of the least 'cliquey' ones I've seen. They even tolerate continental Europeans here, would you believe.
Maybe it's just 'bad luck' on kacsoisti's part that he/she won on the first entry. On the second entry he/she would have had a history already. As Daniel wrote, if kacsoisti doesn't return in good time the next one on the list will take over this weeks competition. No big deal.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the forum.

I am also a new member and would 100% agree with Haworth. I'm glad some of the "Site Vetran's" have posted some reassurance!

I joined in July and have only contributed to the Forum a handful of times. I was a member for several weeks before I discovered the Forum, or the fact that there was a weekly competition. I'm more interested in taking photos and working on them in Photoshop than spending hours blogging. Now however I do dip into the Forum, but not every day. Its a useful source of expert info. As for speculating on whether the last winner of the competition will surface to set and judge the next subject, its a little early, still only Monday. Give it a bit longer before Darkmunk needs start having nightmares.

I think that this is a very friendly, civilized forum and if anything that I have said gives the impression of a 'clique' then I am sorry.
The last thing that I would want is to be part of a 'clique'.
I just like exchanging views with friendly, knowledgeable, likeminded people who share an enthusiasm for Pentax cameras.

Although I did not enter this time, kids now grown up, I was under the impression that entries were expected from Pentax equipment. After all this is a Pentax User Forum. Would be interesting to know what other camera branded sites rules on this would be. Not taking anything away from the winners composition however. As other members have stated no big deal, although I think these points should be clarifed for future. If winner does not come back I would feel for Darmunk, who must feel as a runner up in the circumstances.
Cheers
Cheers
JOSH.

I think the fact that this is a Pentax forum will pretty much ensure that 95 percent of entries are from equipment we are familiar with. That's good enough for me.
