Lets say up to 14-15 or so.

To answer one question, there is no reason why images from a film camera cannot be scanned and used. This competition is very "rules light" and if it's not forbidden, then it's allowed! Within reason, of course...

But on looking through my film photos I've a few good ones as family snaps, but not up to your standards on here, or my new standards these days. ( See the thread I started last night ).

I wouldn't like to be the judge on this one... looks like a bumper crop of entries.

There does seem to be some confusion over what a teenager is - that is, a person whose age is in the 'teens. Thirteen, fourteen, etc.

As for a definition of children, that might mean up to 15 in some areas of life (such as the NHS) and up to 17 in all the rest. I guess it's a moot point. Some people are still children at 50....Might as well add a quote from Tom Baker's Doctor Who, "There's no point being grown up if you can't be childish once in a while."

Anyway, there have been some excellent shots entered. Good idea for the subject.

I will judge the entries tomorrow between 7 and 10 am DK time. That should be the same as 6-9 am UK time.

This is a very important debate because in these politically correct times we all have to to be very sensitive to the feelings of other people, particularly children and their parents. To ask permission from a parent, guardian or teacher before taking pictures of strange children is a common courtesy as well a safeguard for yourself. But I suspect many of the pictures in this comepetition are of members of our own families and therefore the problem should not arise. Good sense should always prevail and a photograph of a child snapped innocently and with no offensive motive or content would only upset the most uptight individual.
Father Ted asks when does a child cease to be a child? In different countries I believe the law lays down different ages. In the UK it's 16.

I have just had another look at the entries - unbelieveable - aren't children wonderful!! I couldn't possibly judge this lot - nearly every one of them could be the winner - Good luck Nimitz

It was extremely difficult to judge - but my conclusion is now online. Well done all - this was truely a learning journey for me as well.

After re-reading the competition rules I notice we never have stated that images should be made with Pentax / Samsung equipment. I seem to recall we had an unwritten rule that any picture could be entered but only Pentax / Samsung ones would be eligible for winning; this week's winner was shot with a Fuji compact and (whilst a nice picture) shouldn't have been given a placing imho.

What do others think? It's possibly too late to change this one now but for future competitions should there be a clearer guideline set down?

If I had known it was not shot with pentax - I would not have let it win. I remember the exact same rule as you Hefty1.

I think - as there was no rule written - it's probably too late to do anything this week. It's not anybody's fault and the winner can't be expected to know what the agreement was.

Having said that, I do think we should have a rule added to cover future comps. This is a Pentax forum so it only seems fair the competition should be for Pentax pictures (with an allowance for Samsung-ites too)!
