Weather Brrr

I thought we had it cold in Ontario with current wind-chill factor of -30C until I saw Don's Winterpeg on the news at -49C. New meaning to "freeze frame" Don!

Got a bottle of wisers deluxe, Gerri, and six kids, and a border collie....all tucked in under a down comforter....will hibernate till spring....

then I woke up and realized I had to install a new battery in the van.....

The heat for global warming has to come from somewhere, and it was decided to take it from Canada, since you chaps know how to deal with a spot of cold weather.

Think of the advantages: no skin cancer, no droughts, no irritating tourists, no nasty tropical diseases.

I think we all envy you.

hey...woke up this morning, and checked the weather site.
Got excited, and happy when I found out it's warmed up out there! It's only -34 (icl wind chill)!

Meanwhile the UK gets 7 cm of snow and grinds to a halt. Schools shut, special extra news broadcasts....from the BBC website - meanwhile in parts of Wales temperaures plummented overnight to -4C. Perleeease.


Snow here in Holland too, but amazingly we have gritters and ploughs out to keep the roads open, schools as normal, and we've had a few night of
-4 C here too - that's called a mild frost, it's what happens in winter, but in the UK they always seem shocked by a little bit of frost and snow and turn it into a drama.

Yep, we had some snow, and as Gwyn said, everything ground to a halt. Schools shut because presumably it's too much of a problem to get there (in the 4x4 ).

Doesn't stop them all getting to the park though, and spoiling my attempt at getting some scenic shots!

4 years ago, I went to the same park in January when we had snow, and practically had the place to myself - saw 4 other people in the 6 hours I was there. Today, couldn't even get in the carpark, absolutely heaving with people (kids and parents).

No chance of a shot like this today.

P.S. Actually curbed my rant somewhat here too, in the car on the way home it had got somewhat more convoluted and wide-ranging.

Just been to the woods with the dogs, but it was snowing too much to get any good shots. I have heard some secondary schools here have closed early - to allow the kids time to cycle home. Many kids here cycle up to 20 km to school everyday, and then do the same home again. No Mummies in their 4x4's here unless you live in Amsterdam

I am extrtemely jealous, its been snowing here in Leeds most of the day but its not trying hard enough to settle.

If we think it's cold here then here is a photo sent to me by unknown authour.

I think the real reason they shut is to try and keep mummy in hubbys toy 4x4 off the road. Nothing more likely to cause an accident in slippy conditions than a person in a 4x4 who doesn't know how to handle it.

"get out of my way, I have 4 wheel drive so I can do 60mph in 3 inches of snow!.......hey, how did I end up in this ditch?"

My cousin got stuck in her 4x4. I was surprised, until I discovered that she didn't know how to engage the four-wheel-drive. Amazing.
