It does seem quite sharp.

The review seemed to suggest 600 USD

Very rare to see one of those come up for sale, from what I have seen the quality is on a par with the Pentax 200mm f4 macro.
If I had not just decided to sell my DA 55-300mm and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX to help fund a 60-250mm f4 I may well have had a go at it.

I recently did a straight trade, got rid of my Vivitar 100mm f2.8 macro for a Pentax-D FA 100mm f2.8 and have to say I am regretting it more and more each day.

AU$1300 does seem a little steep to me, the last one I saw was around AU$800 but that was some time ago.

I got sick of waiting for the 60-250 and recently purchased a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 + matching 1.5x adapter, which I am very pleased with.

The price on the 60-250 will have to come down significantly before I am tempted to switch.

So why do you see it necessary to change your Sigma for one

The Pentax is a lot lighter, has a lot less turns to get focus (plus AF) and is more portable .. The Vivitar is sharper, better made and has lovely brokeh. I must admit I was expecting better things from the Pentax but on the plus side I can sell it on and buy another Vivitar with the proceeds.

It means one less lens to carry (maybe 2 if the quality is decent with the 1.7x converter plus I like the idea of being able to go out with my DA* 16-50mm and a DA* 60-250mm with no worry about it raining

I'd be a bit wary, as the description is a little dubious:

"Comes with the optional lens hood (costs about an extra $100 dollars)"

In reality, the 125/2.5 was the only VSL lens that came with the hood included and it wasn't available separately (what an anorak eh ).

I have sent him a message asking for some some pics, and if the hood is original.

I'm not tempted to buy it (at least I don't think I am ) Just curious.

He is off loading all his high end Pentax gear it appears.

I spoke with the lister not long after it appeared, I mentioned that the hood was indeed included in the package, it was not an option. He confirmed that on preparing to take photos of the kit for the auction that there was room in the box for the hood. He mixed it up with the V90 he owned.

Cheers,

Rob

I should add the I don't that think it's a bad price given the capabilities of the glass and the prices that they are currently fetching in alternate mounts.

The prices currently being asked are amazing considering that Robert White were selling the 125/2.5 for around £450
when it was in production (and unfashionable)

I bought mine second-hand from a forum member for half that, which seems like a good deal now!
On the other hand, I sold my A*85 for about half the current going rate

Well it sold, no surprise to me really, I still think it's good value. After purchasing mine I sold my A*135/1.8, K135/2.5 and A100/2.8 Macro so it made me money And I've also recently sold my A*200/4 macro as it just didn't get much use along side the V125/2.5

Good luck to the buyer I hope he enjoys it. I actually took it out of my watch list, so I wouldn't be tempted

Rob, So you finally sold the A*200/4 macro, I have to say it was also tempting everytime I saw it listed. I hope you got what you wanted for it.

I guess I will just have to live out my days with my poor old Sigma 180mm macro
